Just sold my 2004 CDXI Vectra (72,000klms) which was a great touring car and mainly very reliable and well built. Bought a 2007 (october) SRI 2.2 with 28k on it in Brissy over Xmas for a bargain $18500. Before leaving for Cairns got a 30k service where the driver's side bushes in the rear suspension were replaced under warranty due to a small noise at low speeds. Some interesting data/incidents in the drive going up to Cairns.
1. Brisbane to Rocky 6.0l/100k @ 91kph av
2. Rockhampton to Mackay 6.2/100l @ 97kph av
3. DANGEROUS: When overtaking a train of cars in 4th Gear at 130kPH the engine went into limp mode when I was on the opposite side of the road! Pushed the clutch in to retain speed, got back to the left hand lane and then parked the car on the side of the road. Service light was displayed in the tacho. Turned the engine off, then back on again. Got underway OK again but same thing happened 100k later when I wanted to overtake cars in 4th gear again. Previous owner did say that he had troubles with the speedo which was replaced under warranty. There are some web sites mainly from the UK where this has occurred:
See: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/FAQ/4262-11 (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/FAQ/4262-11) Does your Astra cut out at 75MPH

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM IN AUSTRALIA?
4. Mackay to Cairns 5.8l/100k @ 90kph av

The car is very well built structurally, handles and rides well for a basic sports coupe, has great seats but limited storage spaces such as no cup holders and a small centre console. If I can get the engine cut out problem solved I will be a very satisfied ASTRA driver.

I've had no problems with mine (touch wood).

BTW, why did you use MY SRi as your avatar? LOL!

There should be a fault code logged if your engine went into limp mode. If you can post up the code it may help us identify the issue.

Similar thing happened to me mate.. mainly in 3rd gear under heavy throttle the engine would cut out momentarily and then come back (as if the throttle suddenly stopped working). If its like that, most likely your fuel pump is faulty. I had mine replaced by the dealer under warranty.

I'll try and have a dig for my old thread for you.

+1 on stealing BEK's dp haha.

And welcome :)

Sorry for the plagiarism but just got home with the new car and did not have time to take pictures of it. Used a picture I collected before buying the car in december, a picture of a great looking car like mine minus the 18 or 19 inch wheels. Will take a picture this weekend to replace the temporary avatar.

Ha-ha, that's cool. I was like "nice, another black N/A SRi with VXRs... photographed in a street that looks a lot like mine".

Congrats on the new buy, hope you sort the issues out.

I quickly went out and took a photo of my own little Darth Vader SRI. Really think you should donate your VXR wheels to me to make my New Year's resolution come true.

By the way I have just worked out the difference between the trip computer's figures and the good old manual method and here's the results of my Cairns Trip data:

Manual Method = 44.9 MPG or 15.85 km/l or 6.3l/100

8.3% Optimistic

Computer data = 49MPG or 5.8l/100
