Just looking at all the thread titles with "56k beware blah blah" and got me thinking
Do 56k users even exist anymore?

come on.. hop out of ur box and show yourself :p

My 56k "backup" connection my ISP provided was canned because no one used it anymore because most people had a prepaid wireless BB connection for backup now

Gone are the days of the "futuristic sounding" tone your whopping 56000bps modem made when it connected to the information superhighway

I remember playing a modem connected game of Quake 1 with a made and all u would hear is the modem noises over the constant fragging of your enemy and his bots :p

i think there may be a very small few, ppl that cant get adsl in their area, or are on a wireless dongle, n have bad reception in their area.

i'm on 1.5mb connection, n love that i have hit 1.2mbps manny times :D.
yet aparently acording to telstra, i'm in an adsl blackspot???

kill your d/l limit and hit the capped speeds. they are going to kill you watching pictures load. I don't know how we ever looked at porn back then.

Regional Australia and Tasmania. My Aunty and Uncle are still on dial-up due to staggering prices for satellite internet and not being able to get wireless, adsl or cable (they live in Cygnet, Tasmania) i also have friend who lives in Sydney, mid 20's, and both she and her husband are "happy" with dial-up becuase they are hardly ever on the net... so yes, there are people out there who still use dial-up either becuase they dont care for internet or becuase just cant get fast internet...

speaking of the dial-up sound...does anyone know where i can download a very good quality MP3 of that sound?...i want it for my Win7 startup sound! :)

Internode gives me 10 hours (I think) a month for backup in case my DSL fails. I've never had to use it since I've been with Internode, extremely, extremely reliable. I still do use modems (I have one that's 33.3K for a special use( for dialling into various things remotely to perform programming.

Both my parents still run on dial up. I'd sign them up to broadband but then I fear i'd have to explain even more computer stuff to them :P

When i'm capped this is about the only site I regularly visit that loads in under 10 seconds.

Its a pretty good feeling to know that when your capped. You can still contact the outside world in one way or another :D
