SAAB Auto and SAAB Aero are two different companies.

Latest mail is that the Swedish Government is going to try and step in to rescue SAAB because of the effect the closure of the company and the loss of jobs will have on the Swedish economy.

This is true and has been mentioned many times before...

SAAB aerospace company has absolutely nothing to do with the SAAB automotive company !

SAAB aerospace is well funded and looked after by the Sweedish government and military interests and has merged with a British aerospace company in recent years to try and compete with the Eurofighter/Typhoon programme with their new Grippen fighter jet...

Back to the cars, SAAB out of the picture, I'm another one for who cares really...

yeah see I did know that, I was just meaning to imply that at least the name lives on.

Would be good if the Swedish Government bought them out, but I've read that they believe they have "no place owning car companies" (quintessentially scandinavian attitude I think).

But yeah Saabs are a bit of a cult car, thus it will only be a small (but rather loud) minority that will probably have a whinge about it.

Thats right - I do hope SAAB stays around. Always wanted a 9-3 Convertible.

As for the aerospace side, with the Typhoon, F-22/F-35 and Grippen in the mix, there is one significant wildcard yet to appear: the Sukhoi PAK FA (and its Indian variant).

Apparently Spyker (i Think) have made a last minute bid to buy them.

I hope they survive cause the new 95 was looking pretty special!!

The consortium says the nominal offer, which is $45,899 less than the cheapest Saab car available in Australia, will save General Motors the $145 million cost of shutting down the brand.

makes sense to me...
