Thought id introduce myself seeing I'm a new member

Currently drive an N13 Pulsar sporting basically what consists of being a C20XE, anyone who is familiar with the N13 series/LD Astra series will be aware they actually come factory with the GM Fam 2 Motor..

Why I say basically is because the motor build entails the following;

- Std Pulsar block bored (18LE/F18E) to 86.00
- Std VLSD 5 spd close ratio gearbox
- JE 2.0 Camira Crank (to retain my 6 bolt flywheel to keep my VLSD box, whilst gaining the extra stroke for the 2.0)
- Std XE rods w ARP's
- Std new MAHLE XE slugs
- Late type XE head mildly P&P
- Custom coil pack setup comprising 4x DENSO LS1 coil packs
- Custom intake from the SFI box to the podfilter cai setup I use (HPC coated)
- Modified Std exhaust headers setup (HPC coated)

Made for a nice upgrade over standard and made a healthy 104kW ATW's when it was tuned
Its quite fun to drive really, nice n zippy!

I did have plans on building a 250bhp spec N/A throttle bodied engine however that project was stopped and parts sold off, I think a member here (ant0ny) purchased the bulk of the bits and the QED throttle bodies were snapped up on another forum I browse.

So i begun with this mess

http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx256/tuf20l/a1.jpg?t=1257322381

and ended up with this

*those pics were taken as the conversion wass just finished, wish it still looked as brand new as that!*

**I have since removed the cannisters on the right hand side, they were used as oil catch can, wiper and radiator fluid and have just the other day changed engine covers from all polished to black crinkle coated ones and are now looking at selling the full set of polished covers**

Cheers

Matt

yeah it looks like youve done a real good job....

one thing keeps playin on my mind tho.
why not just use a sr20de or sr20det?
surely its a easier swap, with much more tuning capability...

Because then it would just be another sr or ca conversion in another pulsar, it's basically unique now

sr isn't as easier swap, wat I did means I retained the factory block, factory mounts, factory LSD box, driveshafts etc..

plus the xe has more grunt than the sr, and a tuned xe would smash a tuned sr

and once I'd decided to go with the wolf tuning isn't a problem. The only problem is that all performance parts have to come from the uk. But that isn't so bad now as the pound has been nearing 60 pence.

There were days I did wish I went the easy way and used a ca or an sr but what I learnt and acheived doing what I did I wouldn't have got out of the easy way.

Cheers

looking good, great choice of motor ;)

where did you get your braided radiator hoses from?

tuf20l
5th November 2009, 06:04 PM
They are factory new hoses with proper (Speedflow) stainless braid cover (not that cheap shit u get from repco in a kit that does everyhose in ur bay for $29.95) and Speedflow hose clamps.

Sourced at my local Pirtek dealer.

I think that braid cover was like $90 a meter and clamps were about $30ea from memory, dear as poison but worth it.

You can't actually do ur thicker hoses in braid any otherway
