maybe not everyone like the body kit.

why not try to return to stock?
most ppl do not like to buy modified car.

swisskris
28th October 2009, 09:22 PM
the side skirts are glued on so its very hard to change back

maloo97
28th October 2009, 09:33 PM
See if you get any interest on here for your parts and maybe consider returning it back to stock if you have the genuine parts

or

Ebay it with a reserve.

swisskris
28th October 2009, 09:36 PM
it will be pretty hard returning it to stock due to the painted inside and the guled on side skirts. any other ideas??? maybe ill have to try ebay. what do u guys rekon about the price?

maloo97
28th October 2009, 09:39 PM
I think your spot on with what you have there on carsales!

swisskris
28th October 2009, 09:41 PM
i have only had one proper offer for it but it made me laugh it was only $5000 with all accessories

gmonkey
29th October 2009, 02:14 AM
yeh honestly i dont see the $3000 price rise with those accesories but i dont know much about that nav system (and im guessing most people wont either, they will assume its a $300 dick smith thing) try ebay with reserve at 8000 id say.. only thing i can think of is try advertising the stereo you got in it more maybe and push for great first car? and maybe lie and say it won a car show award for best custom small hatch or something :p (kids in high school love this shit!)

gmonkey
29th October 2009, 02:17 AM
oh and maybe some more performance stuff?? like how the it has a 100kw engine in a car that weighs less than a tonne :p high performance stainless steel exhaust system, cold air induction?? high performance injectors?? high performance clutch?? sometimes you just got to bullshit it up for your target buyers market :p

ChrisMaz
29th October 2009, 02:28 AM
Its a damn good looking car mate. As the others have said, you might have to try and strip it back to stock. :(

Just to think, if this was europe you would have sold it the second you posted it up.

swisskris
29th October 2009, 02:46 AM
yea cheers for the advise. its on ebay now and hopefully the car cruise will attract some attention

Thank You

As you'd be aware, this is not a good climate to be selling cars, the GFC hasn't run its course yet and trying to sell S/H cars is a difficult thing...

The other prob you have is that the car is not standard, this will work against you as well as most will shy away unless it's something that exactly appeals to someone (very rare when modified) and insurance is much more of a bitch too, especially for you younger peeps with a modified car like that...

As for added extras and mods, it's a well known fact that you never get your money back on those !

I would suggest the same as some people have already said above, strip it down or remove what ever you can and replace with stock items, then sell those items seperately or use them on your next vehicle if you can...

If that still dosn't work or you can't/don't want to do that and you really must sell, you have no option but to 'price it to sell' and cutting your losses...

lithium
29th October 2009, 10:11 AM
yeah the price looks spot on for a private sale of a car that age
i really think the mods are hurting you as well. return to stock but it sounds difficult as you've glued the bodykit on, sell at a loss, or perhaps the best option - keep it forever and drive it until it falls apart :)

maloo97

I see you have put it on ebay as a Classified ad - with offers!

Try an auction - put a reserve on it!

Have you even looked at the cars on carsales? Same price as you but with half the km's.... Think you need to revise your price!

or perhaps the best option - keep it forever and drive it until it falls apart :)

That's actually a very, very good/valid option...

I've done this myself on 2 occaisions so far with previous vehicles of mine and it actually works out the be a good idea in terms of money or dollar value at the end of the day...

Am thinking/contemplating doing the same with my Cali, especially because it's still in very good condition and worth not much at all if I try to sell it...

Come to the cruise this Sunday, or at least meet us at one of the meeting points.

We'll take good photographs of your car.

Sometimes all you need is good "representation". I sold my Magna in two days, and the buyer specifically said it was because of the photographs (after seeing that my car was in good condition, of course). I sold my Vectra in a week. Having said that, both cars were in standard form, hence I can imagine your car would be harder to sell as beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Anyway, come to the South Perth, and we'll "upgrade" your photographs.

i think it's a good idea. that's what i'm doing with my Barina - i'm pretty sure noone will want to buy it with all the mods, and it's not worth a lot even if i return it to stock (which will take me many hours to do due to the bloody awful wiring-loom-mounted-over-the-intake-manifold design).

if you've spent the time and money doing significant customization to a car why not squeeze every last second of enjoyment you can out of it? :)

Bang on the money and right you are there !!! ;)

That's exactly what I'm going to do with my vert - it's getting buried with me LOL :D

Just wish I had've also kept many of my past pride n joys :(

Apologies for the off topic spam swisskris :)

I hear you and fully understand...

I think we've all had to make similar decisions and/or scrifices along the way - good luck with it once you get some better pics and wording put into your add... :)

Personally (and I know this is a generalisation), when I see a body kit like that...I immediately think that the car has been thrashed. I think a lot of people might avoid modified cars.

I sold a car on there recently and I recommend paying the $80 for the premium ad if you haven't already, so your listing goes at the very top of the page. Best of luck, it's a good price.

you could always run 2 adds, 1 add written in english and the other add written like the following. you need to market your add to a wide range of audiences:

"OK kuntz, I got to pay for da court costz for doin skidz in da maccers carpark so da car haz to go. diz iz my pride and joy and i done all da work myself. da car is sik, haz been in autosalonz heaps and i got a few trofies n shit. heapz of modz wil not disapont, real hedturna, chix dig it, p plata frendly (copz dun hasle you're shit) and loud zorst, never been boostd, sik system wif subbies, 3k stezza, sell for 10k or 8k wifout stezza. i gota moster tacho azwel witch i will chuck in but it's not conectd up."

Wow! A very valid point! I never realised it's in my mind. It must be sub-conscious.

LOL! And attract them kids who can't even get a loan to buy the car :p

Just another point. Think of what is your main selling point, and try to capture it in photograph. Say, if yours has sunroof and you think it would be a selling point, take a good photo of it. Example: I wanted to show that my Vectra has bluetooth car kit installed, so naturally I can show the Nokia button, which is very unattractive, or I can show this:

Which I did :)

My inititial thoughts when looking were you have alot of K's for a small car and the same price as other with close to half the amount as cnblu mentioned. 5 K isnt such an unreasonable price...maybe you could do it without rego ? shame you want to sell it though since there is alot of work gone into it.

damn....i'd b countin myself lucky if i could sell my 02 astra with 160k on the clock for that much money!!!

i was gonna sell mine. but considering all the time n effort i've spent on it, n the price i'd get....decided against it.

but as the other have already said - never include the cost of ur mods in the sale price. that was ur mod. the new owner will just look at it as "just a barina".

good luck with sales anyway.

nice lookin car by the way :D

i didnt take in account the mods in the price. i had the car valued and the sale price is a few grand less than it is valued for. the body kit alone is worth about the same amount that iam asking for so iam selling this car at a total loss

can you remove the front and rear bumpers for sale separately? I know you've said the skirts are glued on but what about the rest of it?

yea i could but the fenders are painted so the original bumpers would look a bit funny but f anyone is interested in the body kit they can contact me

its because most people look at that car and think...wow 10k for a barina with 150,000ks. no.

Thats the problem, no one buying a second hand car values modifications, unless you get an idiot p plater. But in Australia there's a 95% chance they'd just buy a commodore instead. Its a shame because it does look kinda cool, id knock it down to 7k and probably bet some chick who wears rich bitch glasses will buy it and put pink seat covers in lol.

it was an awsome car but the fuel consumption is off the scales 25L /100km driving normaly and 30+ driving sporty
