Was thinking about painting my calipers but then looked into some big caliper covers on the Bay. I think they look alright! I don't know much about them but from I've read, they can trap heat and can possibly warp your calipers -- is this true?

are they made from plastic or metal?
if plastic I doubt they would trap heat and they would probably melt.
if they were metal then they might trap a bit of heat but doubt it would be enough to damage the disks.
Your still better off painting your calipers vs these covers as they dont look all that good.

Here are the ones I've been looking at:
LINKY (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Brake-Caliper-Cover-For-Vauxhall-Astra-MK2-MK3-MK4-MK5_W0QQitemZ390107144346QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Car sParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5ad432a09a)
Thinking of spraying them black and getting white vinyl OPEL letting on them. I think they will look better than just spraying the actual caliper black.
The seller guarantees they won't melt... although what's a guarantee from a south east Asian eBay merchant worth, LOL.

not fan.. they look obviously fake when your looking at them as the have no depth and thickness, also paint sits different on plastic then metal. It will just look rice in my mind

Ha-ha, I was waiting for the ricer comments. But seriously, they don't look THAT bad. As for just spraying the actual caliper, the results can also look quite dicky as I've seen on plenty of cars.

I too have considered these in the past - only because most good caliper and brake replacemnt kits are soooo expensive and when you've got big wheels the dicky little unpainted stock calipers look so crappy...
They are fake, but IMHO the better made ones with some 'side depth' look 'ok' and certainly do a good job of covering the stock calipers and giving a better visual finish for little outlay...
IMO the red ones or yellow are the ones to look out for as the bright colour will reveal the fact that they're just a cover and not a real caliper, if you go black like gmonkeys ones or probably even silver/grey, they'll blend in more and look ok :)

Like said, good kits are soooo expensive...
By the time you do front and rear (and if your importing them in) you'll need about 5 or 6k...
Those ones in the pic above will set you back at least 2.5k then there's shipping and that's for only one pair...
