Holden are going to be selling limited edition Pontiac G8's in Australia at the end of the year. The move is designed to clear Pontiac parts left over from the Commodore export program since the G8 has been killed off. It is said to be offered in sedan, ute and wagon form. The ute and wagon are exclusive to Australia as they were never exported in mass production to the states as G8's.

Holden has already revealed its Pontiac plans to dealers, emphasising that the limited run of just 1500 are to be retailed at full price, rather than the discounts (some of up to $10,000) Australian buyers have become accustomed to on the Commodore and its Ford Falcon rival. Dealers have been told the Commodore G8 SSV will cost $1000 more than the equivalent Commodore SSV.

Thats alot extra for a different bonnet and bumper.

Key to the changes are further fuel economy improvements with the addition of things such as low rolling resistance tyres, which are designed to reduce drag.

doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of the car?

gmonkey

make it faster aswell :p less drag = less required Kw

but then those tyres have less grip most of the time aswell

all those tyres will do is make it easier to do burnouts... especially when you dont want to

+1, it looks like something from dodge.

and pete, do you know how sickening it is to see a monaro style bonnet (nostrils) on a vs/vr ute, stock as a rock. theres one in port.
kinda makes you wanna get out and punch them. hasnt even go mags, just steelies.

Hmmmm, if I had the choose I'd go with with of our SSV's, don't like the look of that front end on the G8 and pocket the change to boot...

The extra ask is for something limited which is actually something left over and not wanted from somewhere else...GMH trying to milk and dead horse, so typical

same engine but with better and more tech

L76 was originally Holden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden)'s version of the 6 L (5967 cc, 364 cu in) Generation IV engine. While displacement on demand technology was disabled on Holdens, this feature is enabled on the 2008 Pontiac G8 GT (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_G8_GT) and subsequently refitted in the 2009 model Holdens with AFM (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_fuel_management) enabled, but only on models fitted with the 6L80 Automatic Transmission.

They've been on our roads since the release of VE testing for the American export market.

really? AFAIK the G8 got the same engines as the Commodore.
They used the non-direct inject V6 and the AFM/Non-AFM v8s

cbf reading the article again, but at one of the links posted the article mentions the us version being more powerful, cant remember if its due to a tune etc. but it does say it.

Pretty sure that the G8 GT had the same 270kw output as on the SS's here in Australia. The GXP did however have increased power, but this is more the 'HSV' of the G8. This had the LS3 in it delvering around the 309kw mark, so about the same as the HSV range in Australia.
