well we all know how many times this has been said, seems to shed a little bit hope than any other article

Calibra comeback?
An all-new next generation Calibra concept could make its debut in Frankfurt

If the rumours turn out to be true, there's going to be a lot of happy campers at club Calibra. Two decades after it was originally unveiled, the Calibra is set to make a comeback in the form of a new concept car.

The UK press are reporting that the Vauxhall Calibra (badged the Holden Calibra in AustraIia) will return, to eventually compete against svelte Euro coupes such as the VW Scirocco and Peugeot 308 RCZ.

Expected to make its debut at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show in Germany, the new Vauxhall Calibra concept coupe will be based on the new Astra's "Delta" platform, albeit with a wider track and a slightly increased wheelbase.

Australian imports of the Calibra in the 1990s included the 2.5-litre V6 and a 2.0-litre inline four, but the new model isn't expected to get six-cylinder power.

Instead, a range of four-cylinder engines, both turbodiesel and petrol, are likely to be offered, the range-topper being a 184kW (250hp) 2.0-litre four lifted from the Astra VXR (badged the HSV VXR in Australia).

It is not yet known whether the Calibra will offer AWD underpinnings but front-wheel drive models are a certainty.

The 2+2 coupe is expected to come packaged with a range of advanced chassis systems, such as a switchable suspension damping system called FlexRide, allowing drivers to choose the level of ride, from stiff and sporty to soft and relaxed.

When the original Calibra launched in 1989, it was claimed to be the world's most aerodynamic coupe, and it will be interesting to see if Vauxhall/Opel can achieve this feat in 2009.

The design is expected to be very sleek and progressive and as these CGI mock ups from respected UK website Auto Express show, its profile could be a modern take on the original design, which would be sure to please aficionados.

If the concept becomes reality, the car probably won't arrive in Europe for a few years and as Holden is still considering the European-made Astra's future in Australia, an all-new 2012 Calibra would be no certainty. But never say never...

As good as it sounds. The image they provide means its going to look like a sleeker tigra..... :(

considering the size of the original calibra, cant see them naming it the same if its a small tigra sized vehicle

Somehow the notion of a diesel calibra doesn't work for me.

Calibra name will not be used, but it was considered for the mk6 'astra' 3 door which by the way wont be badged an 'astra' as it was decided the 3 door model doesnt look anything like the 5 door hatch and will only share the rear fixed axle and watts linkage set up........

Intersting to say the least..ie. the part about different variants of the same model going to have different names...

Always knew we'd never see another Calibra anytime soon if ever ;)

NICE !!!

Much better than the sedan/hatch variant...

Hopefully the rear tailgate/tail light design is a bit nicer too...

If the end production vehicle looks like that, I can see myself upgrading in 2012 for one :)

That is of course if GMH bring it over those aholes

its actually the autoexpress photshop of what they invisage the 3 door 'astra' to look like, have a look at the crease through the side, its the same as the mk6 astra hatch and not the insignia...there is no insignia coupe!

got similar lines to the lexus ISF almost

If you start looking for similarities, there's a bit of everything there from alot of other current and concept cars...

Audi headlights, new MPS3 chin strakes, Cruze bonnet shape, kink running down the side like so many other new cars these days, eg. 1 series Beemer and new Impreza, Focus style lower bar/mouth opening, Scirocco style side view mirrors etc. etc. look at the mags, almost the same style as on our HSV W427...

So many new/concept cars are starting to look so much alike these days...:skep:

That is a nice starting point, the Cascada is very neat looking design hopefully in the metal it's not as 'fat' as the other new Opel models have turned out to be whereas in pics they look much more proportioned...
