OpelAus Logo Competition - 2nd Attempt

Hi all,

OK, before anything else goes ahead (e.g. banners, stickers, cruise coordinators etc...) we need to get an image built for OpelAus as soon as possible.

Once this is done and the final design approved by myself and Peter, we can go ahead and get stickers and other things organised.

A cash prize will be offered.

Competition closes 24 August 2009 at Midday.


Guidelines:

Logo is not to include any form of the Opel Blitz logo.
Logo is not to use the old Federation font, we will be using a new font that will be given to potential winners to see what it looks like with the final designs.
Final design must be available in a Vector format (e.g. .eps/Illustrator) not just standing JPEG/BMP/PNG etc...

It would be better to announce this now rather than after someone has designed something, which wouldn't look good with their design.

The new OpelAus font is called Flux. You can see examples of it here: http://new.myfonts.com/search/flux/fonts/.

I can provide persons with font files for this font, however these requests are limited due to licensing costs for the actual font.

i just looked into it fonts are legal to be used as many times by as many people if for personal use.. which this is till you choose a winner and then that font is used once for a commercial use. just thought id let ya know, that is unless the company you purchase through thinks differently

Personally I think a lightening bolt looks shit - it reminds me of some cheap superman mock off. Thats just my opinion.

A breach of TM is still enforceable depending on how similar it looks to that one you have tired to copy, so it's best to make it nothing like the Opel one.

Cmon there must be some ideas out there that don't rely on the Opel logo.

And Shay, yes, a colour and a black and white will be fine (colour up to you, it will be judged like others and if suitable, we may just get you to change the colour to something else to see what it would look like), it does not have to only be in one format, as long as I can read it with Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks I'm happy. As Pete said, a high resolution PDF will be needed for some printers (for shirts or signwork etc).

just a bit.. remember that these stickers will be on windows (more than likely) so choose a colour to stand out against a black background e.g. white or silver id reccomend :p

i got an idea.. the opelaus text blended with like a checker flag? faded at the start and different intervals of checker at the end and about 60percent transparent.. im poo with image editing so ill figure out a way too express my idea (anyone wanna try it on photoshop?)

Also prob remove the emboss of the OpelAus cause now looking at it again looks crud, but otherwise im happy with it.. also it uses the Flux font for you guys

Are these going to be printed or cut vinyl? If they are going to be cut vinyl those designs wont really work, if they are going to be printed, why not use color?

Printed on clear woould look ok. Faded checkers on the Nurb would be printed.
The problem with cut vinyl is all the small lines and no's in the tacho.
If the "powers to be" pick a final design, I would be quite happy to cut one and send it to them for a final decision before they commit to getting any made (from where ever).

I actually like the one Shay did and I think your tag line "you've just been blitzed" was a good idea. For a printed or screen printed decal.(not cut vinyl)
The flags would be a pain weeding all those little squares out. All that would add extra cost because its so time consuming picking it out by hand.
A lot depends on how many are going to be ordered.

Yes that's right, because they are solid and no small fiddely bits. Not a problem with them.
People need to remember, the cutter only cuts the vinyl, all the bits need to be picked out BY HAND. ie.the one above would have to have all the white bits inside the font picked out, thus....no good.

problem is with this one, its not using the supplied font..

we cant use other fonts cause they also are copyrighted, the gods have purchased the Flux font for commercial use so we can use it legally

Actually there was a big court case over the copyright of fonts and if you do a search on the web, I think you will find that fonts can't be copyrighted, only the program that created them. I have 25,000 of them and use any of them whenever I choose.

The previous vinyl cut stickers were small and intricate. Got them done, yeah would've been a pain to weed but it was done. Havn't had any issues with them washing off and they've been on there a long time.

He obviously wouldn't print it in black, the sticker would most likey be printed WHITE, so it'll show up on your car, because you can't show white on white, I think they gave a back background so you can at least get the picture. :)

For the record Tomtom, from one designer to another.. I saw it mate, i though it was very good looked like a speedo to me! Very clean, clear and simple!

The theory is that the large speedo is the "O" and the smaller speedo makes up the "A" within the larger Speedo.

Still gonna think about it, but feel free to tinker with these if U wish.

Not in it's entirety.

I think by law is that if you change 20% of a design, it's regarded as completely different. So wiping out the ring is more of less 40%.

The way I designed the first one is that it's not a solid element, the blitz and map are in multiple sections and are different in concept to the Blitz. :)

All logos have to have enough expose so that no words are required, obviously these are super famous so everyone would recon them. Like Qantas, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, etc.

As for the Opel logo itself, some dont even know what the Blitz stands for! *LOL* "Nice lightening bolt, what is it?"
