I'll be repeating the same thing I always say when this question comes up and ie. as long as it relates to you (which most seem to there) then that's a good thing as it'll be money 'better spent' as you'll be able to use those plates on any car for as long as you wish...

I'd have to say more so towards ASTRAY's suggestions, because that seems to relate more to the owner only and not the car, in a more obvious manner that is leaving out the Astra part of it :)

unlike my plates :D
but if i ever stop owning a astra, ill just hand the plates in. i only got them for the car, i dont fancy driving around and everyone knowing my name and/or age.
also i dont fancy paying $500 every year for the rest of my life.
so yeah it was more of a novelty thing.
just explaining the reason behind my choice in plates.

Can relate to those points and I too wouldn't display my name or age on reg plates - looks silly...but you could have your initials, on their own or with numbers than mean something to you...:)
Also depending on which state you live in, fees/costs are not the same, expensive as they are here in Vic. it's a one off payment and they're yours for life, hence my philosophy on the whole 'making them relate to you and not the car thing' in the 1st place - pay for a good set once, use them for life on one only or any car !!! ;)

yeah mate i totally understand your philosophy on plates, id do the same if i was in a state that had decent plate laws.
but, at $500 a year, ill just keep mine for as long as i have my (or another) astra.
did want jay 666, but its been taken for years.

Personally, I don't like personalised plates (euro's r ok tho).
I loved living in the US where plates on the front of the car NOT required,
thus giving cars an uncluttered look.
MOST personalised plates, are like "stickers" on cars, & say alot about owner (not much)
The BEST relevant personalised plate I have seen was "HSVXR" (on the obvious).
This car was recently listed for sale .
What made this stand out in my mind was the "V" is central in the 5 letter design,
and on the car sits perfectly under the "V" design of the front grill.
Perfectly balanced !
Thats just the graphic designer in me speaking out tho.
No offence to everyone on here with personalised plates..
I'd just prefer to put $'s towards a new Strat... lol.
