Replaced front wheel bearing hubs on both sides, OMG, the ASTRA is so quite now, can not believe I drove a noisy ASTRA in the past three years and assume ASTRA is a noisy car. No, it's the worn bearing issue.

FYI, I got two genuine wheel bearing hubs from AUTOVAUX, $300 including shipping, arrive in 5 days, by DHL, THIS TIME THEY DID NOT CHARGE ME THE PARCEL INSPECTION FEE.

Nope, I had a look last night and the pad between the caliper piston and the rotor had disappeared so everytime I was touching the brake the piston would push on the caliper, I don't know how that happened cos they were both in there when I put it back together. Started on Friday, haven't driven it since then cept to tale it to the mechanic, but it's all sorted now :)

Getting damn frustrated with the GSi. Still can't get the bloody thing to start. Everything is connected properly, using the C16XE injectors as I should be doing and I'm not getting any flaming fault codes either. Cranks over, farts occasionally but still nothing. I've got the timing all lined up properly and everything. I'm starting to wonder if the problem is internal somehow or whether I should just go ahead and nut out the Z18XE ECU and fit that all up.

All else fails, I'll just torch the bloody thing and hook into the Veccy instead. Well, right after I fit another engine to a SB Combo.

As Adam said, I'm using the entire C16XE ECU setup including the C16XE coil pack. I've got brand new plugs in there and I'm 100% sure that the leads and coil pack were functioning properly before the swap. I'm just trying to reset the ECU now and see if that helps. If not, I'll try and get a vid of it up and see if someone knows what's going on.

Got the engine wiring harness out of the GSi after a bit of swearing. Half fitted the Z18XE harness, just need to get the rest of the harness, which will happen on Monday hopefully, just as long as the slackers at the wrecking yard get motivated.

Also, gave the iLoad some new brake pads (Bendix Heavy Duty), as after 90,000 they were getting a bit thin, especially on the rears. Can't believe how easy it is to work on this van and yet the morons at Maughan Thiem would've wanted a fortune to do that. Cost $160 for both front and rear pads and about an hour and a bit to do. And at least I know it's done properly.

Got the rest of the engine loom out of the GSi. Made up a new gasket for the Z18XE TB and gave it a good clean. Ordered myself the throttle potentiometer from a Vectra B (Z18XE engine, is basically how they can still use a throttle and still run the Simtec70 ECU) and an OBDII socket to replace the ALDL socket.

Still waiting for these damn lazy wreckers to get me a full ECU harness from the donor car (with keychip and transponder too). Only ordered it on Friday too. Once I get it, it's a little bit of splicing with the original harness plus the 6 wires for the throttle control and it should be ready to roll. Hopefully.

Ok... so last night was a fairly busy night at Brotek Cranbourne North.
Started off by taking the side turbo badges off followed by the foam front splitter.
The car now only has 2 badges. The Blitz one on the back and the Irmcher one on the front...
Changed the front grill to the Irmscher one off Steve and it looks so much better imho

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c171/paulyj/The%20Astra%20Turbo/FrontBar.jpg

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c171/paulyj/The%20Astra%20Turbo/IrmyGrille.jpg

Next thing I attacked was the eBoost2 gauge and turbo timer.
I didn't like the way the boost gauge was positioned and the turbo timer was too in my face and attracting unwanted attention.
So with a bit of force and drilling, eBoost was moved to the vent and turbo timer to the storage under the dash all hidden away.

http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c171/paulyj/The%20Astra%20Turbo/BoostTimer.jpg

Really happy with how it looks now. Nice and neat and out of the way.

Will do mate. From my research it doesn't fit straight in. Either the console/din needs to be enlarged or the plastic face on the mfd needs to be trimmed down to fit. Il probably trim the mfd and use some filler to smooth it in.

Is that the centre console that also fits the Corsa's? Or is it Astra only. Swear I've seen a photo of one in a corsa, Cisco was curious last time we spoke.

adam_92
30th March 2012, 01:09 AM
quite possibly. not 100 sure if it would fit into a corsa c but definatly wouldnt fit a corsa b. possibly been custom fitted. il have a look around. would be interesting if it did

edit: nah definatly not a straight fit. corsa c is shorter from top to bottom and corsa c also bulges out where the heater vents are where as the astra one is straight on both sides. plus the heater controls are higher on the astra console. could probably make it work but theres a lot of dicking around for not a lot of advantage really.

Ripped the aircon system out from under the bonnet of the GSi. The original compressor was seized and had a massive crack in the housing. Plus, the condensor was corroded. I noticed the GSi had a different compressor from what other Corsa B's had, it was a Sanden TRS090 compressor, similar to those used on VN-VP Commodores only with a different pulley. I figured that I lived without aircon before and I drive with the window down anyway, so what the hell.

Still waiting for the damn wrecker to stop screwing around and get the rest of the wiring harness that I need to get the GSi's electrics sorted. Only been a week full of excuses and being treated like an idiot. If I didn't go there as part of my job, I don't think I'd be wasting my time with them.

I'm not sure, but I reckon the Z18XE Astra starter would also be very similar, if not the same as the other Family 1 engines. I did the starter on a C14SE once with the manifold removed and it was easy. Z18 with it's bigger and more obstructive manifold would probably make it more difficult and an excuse to charge more.

Also, my fuel pressure regulator rocked up for the Corsa today. Still waiting on throttle potentiometer, new cam sensor as the one I got is cactus with frayed wires and keys (with blank transponder chips) as my ECU didn't come with a transponder key. All those parts are coming from the UK. Fired yet another rocket up the backside of the wrecker today in order to get the Z18 loom and transponder ring from the donor car. Hoping I can get the loom before the weekend, but I won't be holding my breath. Plus, I've got to fit another C14SE to the brother's SB Combo this weekend, which shouldn't take that long.

Don't know what it is, but it seems that regular post items from HK seem to get lost rather easily. Got my FPR from Malaysia and was here in less than two weeks. not overly impressed with how the filter is secured inside of it, other than that seems fine

Got some work to do once I finally source my wiring harness. Had enough of the wrecker I got the motor from and decided to get on to someone else via the net. E85 is liquid awesomeness!!

1: Cheaper than 98.
2: 108 to 112 octane (depending on pump or race mix)
3: As a result can take more timing due to greater detonation resistance
4: Can take more boost for same reason
5: As it has a lower evaporation temp, it also cools the intake charge
6: 325.6kw ATFW's...What more needs saying!!

Well, got the old C14SE out of my brother's Combo the other day and put another one in. Pain in the you-know-what as it doesn't want to fire, thinking the wiring to the crank sensor is dodgy as it's getting fuel to the rail, but it's not injecting it and it's not sparking. Gonna get the multimeter out and start testing some wires. It did start initially, but it kept stalling, then it didn't want to start altogether. Once again, thanks to Adam for the loan of the engine crane, it's come in handy for sure and it still has one more car to do.

Hopefully, the wiring harness I need for the GSi will be posted in the next few days, decided to get one sent from the UK. Apparently, it's going to be sent via courier, so it could be here as early as next weekend. Still need to go chase some more bits, like an expansion tank and some other little bits and pieces. Man, I can't wait to get this stuff already. I just want to get stuck into the thing and get it running.

So the G failed the RWC yesterday...
Few trivial things but nothing that can't be sorted except for the turbo blowing smoke.
Half the stuff I can do myself so thats not a problem, needs a new windscreen (sandblasted), rear tyres inside wear (swap), can't have an adjustable FPR (have stock one), RH boot split ($80), the airbox and catch can need to be firmly secured.
Almost there...
Yeah I was a bit pissed off yesterday especially after all the time I spent fixing little bits and pieces, but I'm happy that those were the only things.
The way i look at it, once its done it'll be running fine.
Dropped the hybrid turbo off at AXT Turbo's in Dandenong. As soon as I walked in the guy says "ahhhh an Astra Turbo..."
Yep.... one of them...
We discussed a few options. I gave him the spec sheet of how the hybrid has been made up and he can offer a few things better.
Possibly looking at getting G6E internals as they are a lot stronger with a few tweaks here and there, make it spool quicker etc.
He's already done a conversion like this for a SRi and reckons it ran like magic!
Should have a price for it today...
That'll be fun, might even push it closer to that magical 200kw atw mark ;)

Fitted new ferodo pads to the van. WD starting to grunge a bit under heavy braking. Took the old pads out to find that there basically was no pad material left. No surprise there but the grinding was caused by the lip on the rotor actually grinding into the metal backing on the pads... So now the lip on the rotor has been shaved off slightly... Fun times!!

Depending on the insured value, I think it may be a write off

G6E as in falcon? they run a mighty big turbo on both compressor and exhaust wheel, not sure how that would go...
Also, are you still running the haltech inteceptor or just EDS software now?
I dont think the EDS stuff would be suitable for anything over the VXR turbo

3.5 map will be fine, you can adjust the fuelling with the fpr to get it spot on.

We'll see what he says when I get the call today.
He's done the conversion already on a SRiT with great gains to will have to weigh up my options.

Massive thanks to nuggz for putting in my Bilstein coilovers last night.
gman I absofknlutely love them!
Completely different car!!!
Instant turn-in response, smooth, just freakin awesome!
If it wasn't for the fuelling issue I have atm I would've been out driving Mt Dandy all night!

Might get a tune done sooner rather than later

Massively increased airflow due to the dump is causing it to ping a little bit, knock sensor has obviously just decided after the dyno that enough is enough. Performance doesn't change at all luckily, but the fking dash has lights that keep blinking and annoying the shit out of you. Also can't use cruise control

I know what that should be.. :D

Its everything though so that why its heavy. You should feel a standard one!! They weigh a TONNE!!!!!!!

In other news, I ordered a new 3.5" race muffler from Burns Stainless in the US and a new 3.5" exhaust is going to be made up too...

Yup, that's it. Just discussed installation and should be within a week or 2. Some more parts on order for this and then it's going in.

Absolutely!! Weight saving will be substantial over a 3.5" stainless system.

Less weight = more fastness

44% lighter if all but material are equal...

should ceramic coat the whole thing too.
Higher egt's at the tip = higher flow = more boost!
