View Full Version : What do you want from OpelAus

Kudrow

Hi all,

It might be because we are feeling generous, or have nothing better to do, whichever it is, I would like to ask all members, what would you like to see from OpelAus in the last half of the year?

I'm open to any and all reasonable suggestions, as long as they have not been discussed before.

Cheers
Brady.

Not sure if this has been requested before but how about each member receives $2.75 per post

poita

If each members want to pay a $15000 a yr membership fee sure we can do that.

But seriously, anything you want to see in the 2nd half of this year?

Jerram
29th June 2009, 09:55 PM
SHOUTBOX!!! (tbh I hardly even know what it is, though I had to be the first to suggest it)

Some other forums have flash games where people can compete for high scores - seems to work for them, though I dunno if it'd work here.

More themes

that's about all I can think of

just to reiterate guys

yeah - if I had a dollar everytime someone suggested we bring the shoutbox back, I could pay every member here $5 per post....

the spam thread IS a "shoutbox" anyway. Don't need two of them.

How about a parents section?? :)

Im joking.

Kudrow

Just to make some things clear (aka Definate "no"):
No one is being paid to post (highly amusing that one)
Shoutbox/chat will not be returning
So far we have:
More themes - Jerram
Flash games - Jerram
Parents section - Vectracious

cool stuff

I would just like to know, however, why "shoutbox" apparently is not liked. (Keep in mind that I pretty much don't even know what it is - I just know that some people always want it back).

also another section

a "tuning" section - considering that most members here have very similar generation engines, could we start engine by engine boards?
ie - zXX, yXX, cXX, let, etc. (I understand that these would initially be slow on the uptake, though things like ASTRAY's engine strip and rebuild would be good in specialised boards.

are you talking in terms of the site only or as a club?

Shay
30th June 2009, 02:10 AM
as a site i think its pretty good.
much easier to use than a lot of other forums...

would like to see a Downloads section if it couple be done.
not as a sub-forum, up the top with usercp, faq, etc.
examples of use;
- pete made up some screen savers (pretty much gone by the way side now)
- approved logo's and club banners (so ppl can self print rather than wait for group lots)
- back grounds and pics that could be added by admin (only) (with owners permission)
- jays how to pdfs when he finishes ;)

as a club;
i know you guys a working on it, but still, a bit of merch.

cant think of anythin else atm. IMHO i dont like garage features, but thats just me.
as usual you guys do a great job.

Can we add some pictures (before the title), eg: have a astra picture in front of Astra Models (http://www.opelaus.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9), little QLD map in front of sub-forrms Queensland (http://www.opelaus.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41) ect ect. Its all about presentation IMO, not just all boring texts.

ASTRAY

it has been suggested before, but not completely thrown out the door.
id like to see a opelaus banner that can be used at opelaus get togethers.
of course keep the cost of it to a minimum, use non expensive materials, have the letters sewn on instaed of prited, which will save the cost of printing.
that way if it does accidently become damaged, it can be replaced cheaply.
i wouldnt say im a pro, or even good, but im a decent sewer, maybe we could get some calico and another different coloured cheap material and sew the letters and logo on.
we could either have just one banner and send it around the country when needed, the post cost covered by the members needing it.
or we could make 1 or 2 for each state and have designated members who keep it in a safe place when not being used.

2m long x 1m high would be a good size i think. or there abouts.

but i suppose kudrow means on the actual site.

i think the most important thing we need is spotted cards we can download and print off ourselves. we need to fast track this, everytime members walk past a opel in the local carpark, and dont have a spotted card, is another opel we are missing out on having on here.

as for size, i think biz card size is too small. and a4 is too large. perhaps a design size that we can fit 6 on each a4 sheet would be perfect. noticible, info would be easy to read.

if any members already have a design they have already been placing on cars, can i please have copy of it or a download link to it?

Kudrow
30th June 2009, 12:48 PM
A banner may be considered as long as whoever wanted to "use" it paid a deposit for it - which I think is reasonable.

Edit: This opens another avenue, which Poita will post about tonight.

kudrow dunno if you were being sarcastic or not, but half a4 is too big i think. something people are able to easily put into their glovebox or little compartment in the centre console. i think the biggest you would want is 1/4 a4, but i think 6 is a nice size. either one of them 2. just my opinion though.

On a side note....how bout something like a Chat room? Like any members can log on chat instead of having to post all the time?

PaulyJ
30th June 2009, 06:06 PM
The download area is a great idea.
Members can download 'How To' pdf.s, Wallpapers etc.

Rocco, a chat room and shoutbox as fun as they can be, can and have caused problems with software in the past. They have a back door allowing hackers into sites, and this will cause issues. Its happened before on OA, so we don't want to see it happen again.

Corporate sponsorship... not necessarily this half of the year, but something to try and get further down the track.

A Wiki.

Turn all the how-to threads into real collaborative efforts - let people modify/further explain/update/expand the instructions.

Same for technical threads - enter all known part numbers/codes/specs/potential upgrades and so on in one place.

Saves looking for the appropriate thread each time, and easier to find info than reading through pages of info.

And once it's up and running there's little ongoing work for the admins as the users will be doing all the content updating.

If you were really keen you could make wiki read (or perhaps just update) access available only to supporting members.

Without offending anyone, the best car forum I have come across and I now use frequently is http://www.mitsubishiclubaustralia.com/forums/index.php.

I like all it's extra features like the Garage (which allows you to add a car, then add modifications as you do them, where you bought the mods and had them installed etc it's brilliant), Chat, Merchandise section, etc. ALso the "Last 15 Posts" scrolling link box at the top is genius

Maybe something like this for any traders or people selling through here, lets us know who to trust when buying stuff. Forum might be a bit small and we all pretty much know who is who at the moment, but later down the track....

+1. especially with sale section.
i havent seen any bad feedback for opelaus members, but with the opel line up ceasing from holden, possibly holden stopping supply of opel parts in say 5-10 years, and already released models dropping in price, we are going to see alot more members and alot more used parts changing hands via the forums.

what about instead of "car of the month" and everyone votes on it, Just randomly every month, a member is chosen to write up like an interview-y thing like they do in the mags, yeah you might get some duds but still, at least it will give everyone the chance to contribute and it won't be the same few people who are in the "friends" circles who always end up winning.

You can kick it off by having maybe 5 or so names, and who ever responds quickest will be the contributor for that month.

You can have like a set questionnaire so it would all be semi-interesting for a few months.

as for one in general, no.
it just opens the door to people leaving negative for the hell of it.

for example if i didnt like something shay said in a thread i could pm heaps of ppl and tell them to leave negative for him
