OA stickers - petition for print

Hey guys, as a few NSW members have put their hands up saying they want the stickers, I've decided to start a petition for a new round of prints. Hopefully when enough people want them we can get a new batch :D

If you would like stickers drop a "Username +1" in this thread.

@Admins/Owners of OA - this wasn't posted to create any sort of pressure. I just figured if you guys were able to see how many people wanted stickers (for example if demand reached X) you'd know when a good time is to do a new round of prints:cornut:

The last run of stickers for the site was organised through nuggz a little while back. From memory kudrow was going to be updating the logo but not sure where he is at with it. I'm sure poita and the boys will have something in the pipework.

Hello everyone, been lurking and reading here for the last couple of weeks and think this is a great fourm.
I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but this particular sticker has a copy right, wouldn't like to see you end up closed down or paying a massive fine for the infringement.

Manda, how about doing away with the text underneath and putting the Astra, Calibra, Corsa etc in its place...just a thought.

On the plus side, we don't have Opel's spys running around looking for someone to nab and I'm not too sure how much they enforce their copyright.. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking anyone, just a friendly bit of advice.

Guys,

I'm all for getting some stickers printed, and I've taken a look at each and every design you have put up here. However, with all designs, there is one main problem and that is: we can't really have the Opel Blitz logo in them.

The main reason for this is trademarks and IP. Now I realise that we have been using the Opel Blitz logo for years and other forums use other owner's IP, however I don't want to go down that path.

I'm all for a sticker/logo competition. If you want to submit proposals on here, you can, and a vote will be cast when I feel its ready to be.


Some guidelines and suggestions to adhere to:
Opel Blitz logo can't be in them;
Maybe use a different font instead of Federation all the time;
Remember they need to look good on any background (e.g. a white background will look good on a white car, but will look crap on someones window with black tint);
Something that isn't as tacky as a bumper sticker;
You get the drift....

It's a trademark issue as the club is not affiliated with opel. In saying that, you can always get a club sticker then get someone to make a blitz sticker for ya and combine them :p

Not too much. However you generally put a Opel logo onto a Opel/GM car so there is probably no big deal. Some users on here don't own a Opel/GM car. Also, it would be better to have something unique - not just taking someone else's idea. There are a few other reasons but I won't go there.

There are a few designs that are just shit hot and since it will be hard to choose which one, we have decided to use three official logos. The reason for this is each would look good on different parts of your car.

Before those logos will be officially selected in here, the creators of such logos will need to sign a release agreement, to effectively "transfer" the ownership rights to us. If anyone has an objection to this, please PM me as soon as possible.

Also, I will personally cover the cost of the stickers for those who's designs are selected, so basically, they get their stickers for FREE*.

This is best quarter panel window one thus far i'd say... i was thinking of incorperating 'member' somewhere...

i know it's opelaus and all but IMO the aussie aspect looks tacky, like a supercheap auto bumper sticker. I think we should stick with the ideas of opel, community, membership and a bit of 'sports racing'.

Font should be plain and bold, but not too plain that its dull... IMO federation is dull :p

Window liner one should just web address, and maybe one line slogan.

think of car club stickers...they're not meant to be huge and standoffish...just has to be nice and subtle....you don't want it taking up half your rear windscreen like those stupid unit stickers or tribal graphics.
If someone is interested in your car, they'll read the sticker, if not, it's nice and subtle and doesn't make it look stupid.

:pOK here we go... the blitz ended up rubbish, but yeh aslong as the logo isnt a direct ripoff it should be legal to use... thats how those dodge companys that do fake badges/jackets/etc get away with it, the logo is different enough to suffice that its not the same as the one registered.

im kinda with you ain. i think the originals were/are pretty darn good.
as for mod slightly, the opelaus.com one could be bigger overall, higher and longer.

its a real shame we cant use the blitz, because the blitz is the symbol for opel, and opel is the main reason we are all here.

i think if we cant have the proper blitz on our stickers, then we shouldnt have varied ones, varied versions of the blitz are pretty much useless, perhaps even mocking us, because no one else in the outside community will know what the weird ass backwards upside down lightning strike is for (it wont be matching our badges etc),
and when we look at it we will see it as really meaning nothing.

so far i like...

1. opel as a business entity doesnt exist in Australia
2. and where opel exists there are MANY forums online with the opel blitz in their logo.

its stupid just having a aussie logo and opelaus.com when we just have a opel badge on our cars.
having the blitz and the website address would say to other astra/corsa/etc etc drivers that the forum is about the car.
rather then just having some random artwork with a website address.

most people at the time would see a aussie logo or the southern cross and some website they would assume "ohh yea some bogan website"

The word "Opel" and the "Blitz" logo are both Registered Trademarks in Australia, hence their intellectual property rights are enforceable in Australia.

If you don't believe me, go to www.ipaustralia.gov.au (http://www.ipaustralia.gov.au), find the ATMOSS tool, and do a search for trademarks 130780 and 844072. You will find the first is for the word "Opel" and the second for both the "Blitz" logo and the "Opel" word. Both are owned by Opel Eisenach GmbH in Germany.

I would be cautious about incorporating logos into your website without permission. However, merely mentioning the websites by name without the logo is likely nominative fair use.

That being said, I'd be surprised if any of the websites you mention would strictly enforce trademark infringement in the example you describe. No corporation is going to take a few guys to court over using their logo to represent their product, after all, we are all walking talking billboards for Opels. Further more, OA is not a profitting organisation and we are not using their logo for any monetary gain. Being that money is the core foundations from which copyright laws were created, without that factor, there is no reason for them to pursue OA.

Also, I believe the law has provisions for the use of names/logos/images in "parody". Don't know how that adds I'm just going to start random fact dropping soon.

In saying all this, I am 100% behind OA owners in pursuing full legality to ensure NO CHANCE of future issues.

What about if we put www.opel.de (http://www.opel.de) down the bottom in real small font of our logo to 'link' blitz in with their site for them, cause mentioning of their website should make it ok to use there logo relative to their page...:p

also its registered as lightning (ours could be 'Z') also it breaks the circle ours don't have to... adaptations to the the registered image should allow us to use it.. also its registered as 'class 12 and 37' these appear not to cover signage, not sure if there maybe another registry to cover thAT?? just putting some possible loopholes out there

@ tomtom, money is is the root of all sueing, we all understand this, but they can still threaten to sue which will pretty much means the owners will have to shut this great community down, im with you (i think) and brady, make a change so that theres no risk of that happening...

btw blitz through australia is still possible, i like that one, prob my fav of the ones i did...

copywrite/patent/whatev that thing was, specifies "cutting circle"...

@ manda, opel.de reference may work on website, but it would need to be on every sticker too, not cool :p

OK, our legal person (yes we have one!) has advised against using any form of Intellectual Property that belongs to Opel in Germany regardless of how trivial it may be.

As there was a fair few submissions and since this thread has almost been dead for a week, it will be closed and once we work out our design/logo, I will start a new thread.
