Cant beleive no-one has posted up about this yet

Turbo Charged 2L (210bhp) or 3.8 V6 (306bhp)
6 Speed Manual or 6 Speed Triptronic
Limited Slip Differential
Sport Tuned McPherson Struts
Rear Wheel Drive
Brembo Brakes
13.4" Rotors

1610kg

0-60 5.9 seconds
Top Speed 239km/h

And with companies like HKS and RMR (Rhys Millen Racing) making upgraded performance kits including larger turbos, intercoolers, bolt on exhausts and ECU upgrades for a company who used to make shit boxes like the Excel and Elantra this is IMO a pretty cool car and one you might actually consider driving.

Although I don't think it will be coming to Australia, I wonder how the public here would accept the car?

Imagine it lowered slightly on some TEIN coil overs and vertex designed body kit it would look pretty dam sexy indeed (just have to remove all the Hyundai badges first)

As much as that looks like a good car, Hyundai still have too much of a "cheap rubbish" tag associated with them, and thus miss out on a lot of potential buyers.

from what i understand this is being released as the tiburion?
there has been talk of a RWD turbo to replace the current model for years.

afaik it will be released as its own model, the genesis
not a replacement for the tiburon

What would you say if I said it has a stiffer chassis than the previous BMW M3? Had a look at the LHD version at the motorshow, was impressed.

rear end looks a bit like a new Mazda six, but also like the Tiburon

(or at least what I think it looks like)

In 15 years if I'm a millionaire with money to throw around frivolously I might buy one just to see what it's like. I'll probably get it free from the garage when I buy a tank of fuel for my flying Aston...

Funny, but I can't ever remember the s coupe ever being this ugly:

and it has a hyundai badge on it :DSo does THIS (http://www.vimeo.com/1550493), and that car was stock except for exhaust... I'm biased because I've just cleaned up in one, but playing the 'Hyundai badge' card doesn't work anymore when they're pumping out cars like the i30, iMax, and soon to be released i20...

I've been quoted as saying and will stick to it, that I give the Hyundai/Kia group 15 years before they're the biggest manufacturer in the world. With the exception of maybe the VW group, they're the only manufacturer in the world that can't seem to do anything wrong at the moment.

- They release their first diesel, and comprehensively beat the euro's at the their own game, for half the price.
- They release their first van, and the thing won't stop taking awards...

I'm a red blooded, hetrosexual male, who currently drives a 1 tonne AWD commodore ute, and I'm about to trade it in for a late model Tirburon! ;)

WOW! I knew Hyundai were to replace the Tiburon soon but I didn't expect a spec sheet like that

Looks to be a direct competitor for the 370z, wonder if its a nicer drive as the Nissan is meant to be?

Still not sure about Hyundai in general but they are certainly doing a their best to make people take them seriously.

It's not replacing the Tiburon, they've made that quite clear. They still want to keep a FWD sports car, and whilst Toyota keep giving them a cheap 6spd FWD box, why the hell not... Even Mr Hammond rated the Tib highly!

It has Pete...

If not a thread, it's been brought up and discussed in may other threads :)

It sure does steer away from the 'traditional' Hyundai - But it also goes into a non 'traditional' Hyundai price point... :skep:

BTW I'm a fan, seen the prototypes at a couple of shows now, very nice indeed :)

cheap rubbish?? have you even looked at the i30?? this isnt hyiundai from 10 years ago.. they have come a long way..

well like i said, considering HKS and RMR are willing to have a go at making parts, tehn it defin has plenty of potential.

i dont think so at all..

as you said they're getting the backing of aftermarket parts from reputable manufacturers..

i think you'll find these cars are going to be the tuners choice soon.. cheap and reliable aftermarket parts.. people will be trading in their cordia's for these.. except roger..

"H" badge or not, this is a fine looking coupe, with an impressive spec sheet. I'm happy waiting a couple of years to see if it comes here at a suitable price.
As has been mentioned, don't confuse this with Hyundai of 10+ years ago. There have been huge improvements in H build quality. And there's still heaps of those little Hyundai 3-door Exell cheapies getting around. So they do keep on going . . . . just like any other brand!

+ 3 !

All the knockers have to just bear in mind that most car makers had humble beginnings !!!

Does anyone here remember how Hondas were regarded in the '60's and '70's ???

That's right, most called them rubbish, they were pretty much like the Hyudais and Daewoos of today...look at them and others now ;)

http://carsguide.news.com.au/site/news-and-reviews/story/hyundai_genesis_coupe_unleashed/

A sort of phosphorus avocado green flash screeches out of the dark hanger at Hunter Valley Airport.
It’s a car that’s not supposed to be in this country.

Yet only days after its sibling appeared at the Melbourne Motor Show, here’s another Hyundai Genesis, with a guttural 231kW/361Nm 3.8-litre V6 aboard. This one isn’t pristine and stationary on a podium.

No, this one’s laying a gust of burning rubber. A black-clad, impenetrably visored driver Hyundai are cheekily calling ”The Stag” peels what is by leagues of magnitude the most exciting car to emerge from Korea through a course of orange cones set up on the runway’s apron.

We lucky hacks get a passenger’s insight into the agility and chuckability of this instantly desirable rear-wheel-drive coupe.

With production underway in left-hand-drive only the Genesis is available in cack-hand territories. In the US - where’s it’s very much a competitor for the Infiniti G37 coupe that Nissan Australia will not bring here (it’s a grey import favourite) - the Hyundai is winning raves and awards.

So it seems an act of unusual cruelty to torture poor fellows with a tantalising taste of a toy we won’t have the chance to play with it.

Or will we?

“One thing I’ve learned in four-and-a-half years at Hyundai is never say never,” senior communications manager Ben Hershman told Carsguide.

“This is why we bought them here. They’re our cars. We’re going to do a series of promotions like this to gauge reaction.”

As to Australia’s realistic expectations of getting the Genesis, Hershman says: “We weren’t going to get the i20 (city car) either and now we’re launching it here later this year.”

Frankly, we must have this car. Not only does it look and sound stirring to a disturbing degree, no-one’s bringing anything quite like it to our part of the world.

And if Hyundai could price it at WRX or Ralliart money, or even not to the distant north of that, they would surely sell each and every one they could source.

the Hyundai is winning raves and awardspft, how could anything with a 'H' badge do that?

I'd love to get one on dirt, but I don't think the Brembo's would fit under 15" rims somehow...

I'm actually quite a Hyundai supporter, my family owned 4 of them from new, my mum and sister both had a Getz when they came out, and also an Excel, and i owned an Elantra.

Sure they're not groundbreaking vehicles, but they're very well made, especially for the price tag. I've been following this vehicle since the stories and rumours started few years ago and I'm really liking it. I sure hope they bring it here, its definitely the kind of vehicle they need to lift the public perception of the brand in Aus.

A good drive is a good drive, regardless of badge. As far as I'm concerned, if TATA would launch a rear wheel drive with over 300CP that looks and drives like the Genesis is supposed to, I'd consider buying one :) This coupe from Korea looks very promising indeed. I can't wait to see it down under. It will get the others in the coupe/hot hatch market to either lift their game, cut prices or piss off!

Ok, let's test this theory... If LADA* launched a rear wheel drive with over 300hp that looked good (for a russian tank) would you buy it?! :p

* I can say this because I have actually rallied a Lada :( 4th Last paragraph... but that's going back a while now so don't hold it against me! :D

It's what I always say - if it's good, it's good, there's no 2 ways about it - like it or not truth be told and credit given ;)

Your last quote above is exactly what my point always was regarding the Nissan R35 GT-R...it's going to cause the rest of the 'top end' to lift their game and hopefully drop their prices too...

Latest Merc. on another thread already features some of the GT-R's mechanical layout - looks like it's started...
