Was on this afternoon in Melb. City at Fed square, the launch promo of the V8 supercars - I went by for a look enroute on my way to Jeffs' shed for the motor show...

On display were some of the Holden and Ford team V8 supercars and all of the drivers...even Skaife made an appearance, he will now be a part of the comentating team of the series, which IMO is a very good thing.

Also on show and I was wrapped it was - was the R35 GT-R pace car - looks great in the colour scheme, for anyone who hasn't yet seen a R35 GT-R in the flesh, all I can tell you is they look fantastic, a blend of beasty and beautiful, awesome vehicle, anyways enjoy the pics of both cars and drivers :)

LOL @ the chock of wood holding the Datsun on the hill - too many launch control starts have stuffed the park-brake. :p

^^^^ It was sitting on an incline there Pete, safety sakes I think :)

The V8 supercars were also chocked in a similar manner ;)

I'm surprised no-one's made any "aw well yeah that R-35 would screw them over - I dunno why it's the pace car coz it'd win" comments yet.

In stock trim, no it wouldn't....highly modified I think it just might :wink1:

A typical V8 supercar has anywhere from 450-560kw and weighs a little over 1000kg...far superior power to weight ratio, the latest HRT cars can run an almost dead neat flat 10sec over the 1/4 mile ;)

If you go look at the latest Motor mag, there's an actual comparison of the an R35 vs a V8 supercar around a track....the GT-R does extremely well, but way off the pace of a V8 supercar, not surprinsingly though :)

From the top of my head the V8 supercar is somewhere in the region of 450-480kW and their weight has to be a minimum of 1350kg without driver, i'm sure Mat can help me out with this!!!

Hmmm, must have changed since I last looked at the specs which was quite some time ago...

I've got a Motor mag from some years back (2002 I think) with Skaifes HRT car and it weighed only a little over 1000kg as far as I can remember and had 450kw but they also said they could output up to 560kw...

Do these newer larger cars weigh more and is power governed or tapped at 620hp ???

Me too, was thinking that yesterday when I saw the GT-R pace car, what a good job that would be to have on every 3rd weekend :D

Again from memory (and again hoping Mat can assist) the power and weight have been the same since the VT/AU days (give or take a few kgs), the VE/FG race platform are still VT/AU size so they actually are smaller than the road going version!!

I can't remember a V8 supercar being in the 1000kg mark, even the GT-R's were in the 1300kg region in '91 (then bumped up to 1400kg for the 92' season)

I'd say power is governed somehow to keep it fair, i mean nowadays even the suspensions are exactly the same with Commodores running the Fords Watts linkage!!

You may be right Steve, if I can dig up that Motor mag, I'll have to refresh my memory :)

It's been around 620-650hp mark for years. They are limited to 7,500rpm which keeps the full potential of power down. The weight's been at 1350kg for years as well... Maybe they printed it wrong?
