hi guys, just a few qs.

at the end of this year i will be looking to buy a sri-t g, preferably 04 but 03 will do.
i was looking around the net and i dont mind the look of the g station wagons. (estate/van)
im seeing them for around 2000pounds-3000pounds, which would be around $4000-$6000. say 2k for transport, and id have lots left over for mods, eg kit etc.

what i want to know, is has anyone imported any cars from uk/germany lately?
if so, how much did it cost for transportation and customs etc?

also, im only seeing 2.0L in diesel form, did they make any that arent diesel?

another q, and this may be a large ask here, has anyone here driven a g wagon ? what was it like?

cheers for any help :D

there are tight restrictions on importing cars, like owning them and living there for like 6 months.

apart from the ownership rule( I think its now 1 year!) you have to be careful of rust as well as apparently they salt their roads for winter.

also import tarrifs are quite large then your costs of getting compiled for asu - speedo , and other stupid adr laws

is there some law about 15 years old aswell?

or do u just have to own it for a year before u can move it to get around that one?

it's cheaper n easier if it's ova 15 years old.
10% gst and 15%duty of purchase price on arrival too ;).

There should be lots of info on this topic from other members who've both equired and done so themselves - basically it ain't cheap or hassle free to get a car from O/S and bring it over here, if your not from where ever you acquire it from, but ' if ' you really want to, like anything else it is possible to do, how much/badly do you really want it or not ?? :)

have you tried looking in New Zealand?

apparently it's easier to import from there..

when i enquired about the coupe there was a lot less red tape, but still, there is plenty of tape..

apparently s.a is one of the best places to import from, just dont know if they had the wagons.
was talking to my foreman about it today, he told me about some bloke who imported a tvr, had to fork out something like $150k.

apparently customs etc have to check out emissions, seatbelts etc to make sure absolutely everything complies with australian standards.

wraith, it was just something i was kind of thinking about, as an alternative to getting a ts sri-t.
was looking through reigers catalogue and the wagon looks real nice with a kit.
i just figured instead of paying say 15k for a sri-t, i could get a wagon for say 6-7k, import for 2k (a guess at the time, now it seems it was a v unrealistic guess)
get a kit for around 2k
get some nice wheels and still have say 3k change from 15k, to do other mods.
was all really just an idea. im not totally obsessed with the wagons, i just think they look nice.

What year is it though, because they stopped selling them here well before production stopped in Japan!!

Yeah there are alot of rules to import a car from Europe/UK, way too much effort unless it's a rare collectable!!

It's an 89, but there are both import and Aus delivered models in Australia, from 86 (series IV) to 2001 (series VIII), so don't know how that works. These are not private imports either.

Another one I thought of is the N14 Pulsar SSS. I was looking to buy one a long time ago and there were both import and AUS delivered models of the same year available (with the jap spec having more goodies)

Maybe it was a loop hole, or they changed it, but there are definately models that were both imported and available locally.

if it's ova 15 years most of those laws are irrelevant ;).

ASTRAY

apparently the laws have been changed fairly recently.
