Guys if you get any database errors whilst on here can you please post in this thread ONLY the following:

Date and time;
What you did/what you clicked on;
If it worked the second time; and
Any SQL error message (e.g. "The SQL server has gone away").
I already know about the Links page not working, so don't bother posting that one.

Cheers

i don't know if this counts as a database error ... but "retrieve password" doesn't work.
just re-directs you to the main page.

this may be a little issue as the new server has stopped automatic logins from web browsers - for lazy people

this may change when name server resolves or something. :P i noticed i see the IP address in the address bar haha.

i didn't want to make a thread dedicated to this so i thought this was the most appropriate thread to post in :D

Due to the new server move, the old cookies will be invalid.

You will just need to login again, check the save password/remember me box and all should be fine.

And yes, the loop is due to the server move. The old server as a redirect in place to go to the new server. When the DNS changes, this redirect magiclly disappears.

Not sure if this is a database error or not, but when i try to click on the "Move to Australia" announcement it says i dont have permission to view the thread.

Is that supposed to happen?

im getting a stack of red X's for all hyperlinks.

This is because we have changed servers. Youl would have noticed the site loads incredibly faster now.

The red X's will go away once DNS fixes itself - which is automatic.

Automatic, yes. Quick, not really. The TTL is still set to 24 hours so it'll take at least a day for the change to occur.

Normally a few days before a server move the TTL should be changed to about 5 minutes (though not every webmaster has access to change their DNS settings I guess ... )

If it's really annoying add a temporary entry to the hosts file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc like so:

202.45.153.32 www.opelaus.com (http://www.opelaus.com)
202.45.153.32 opelaus.com

I don't have access to adjust the TTL and the latest and final move wasn't exactly "planned".

Yeh like I said, not everyone does .. which is a bit poo.

And yes, the site is much faster now - 43ms ping time for the new host compared with 243 for the old one. Hoorah

I think the majority of users' are seeing the new server. I know a certain co-owner still isn't, but hey, thats what you get for going with Bigpond.

I saw it within about 5 minutes. I have an in-house SBS server with DNS on it :D

Yeh but you can force a DNS flush can't you ..

By the way I am on Internode and it hasn't updated.

> set type=any

Server: resolv.internode.on.net
Address: 192.231.203.132

Non-authoritative answer:
opelaus.com internet address = 67.225.244.216
opelaus.com nameserver = ns2.runswift.net.au
opelaus.com nameserver = ns1.runswift.net.au

opelaus.com nameserver = ns1.runswift.net.au
opelaus.com nameserver = ns2.runswift.net.au

I'm on Internode and it has. Even if I bypass my local DNS and use Internode's.

Poitas tried ipconfig /flushdns

Yep, I'm on internode as well and no issues.

Maybe just the NSW internode servers not having replicated yet.

Yeh that only flushes his local PC's DNS cache .. Bigpond would have to flush their cache to force an update .. Poita should put a temp entry into his hosts file and all will be sweet.

lol why not call Bigpond and tell them to flush their cache and restart their DNS servers hahah

would be amusing to see their reply

Yea the main 'Node IP address routes to some hidden secret IP address for each state level server.
