Ok, I thought it'd be interesting for us to disclose just how much we've lovingly splurged on that 4-wheeled money pit parked outside.

List any "major" mods (including purchase price of your car) in chronological order.

I'll go first, hey:

In 10 months, I've spent:

1. $30,500 (car purchase price)
2. $420 (King springs)
3. $2,500 (new wheels/tyres)
4. $30 (Black Euro plates)

Total: $33,450

Also nuggz each to their own but I reckon you need to go for a grille that doesn't have a huge holden logo on it. IMHO The Holden Grille makes Vectras look terrible.

LOL where the hell do I start ????

If were're talking about my 2 Opels, in short, over 100k all up...including initial purchase cost...(which was 52k for the vert. new and 19k for the Cali S/H)

If we're talking about money spent on cars in all of my life so far...I'd better not mention it, most of you will faint :D lets just say that if I'd saved it all up over the past 25 years, I'd be be able to go out there and buy a fully optioned new Gallardo at well over $1/2 million

If we're talking about what I'll be spending in the near future, as soon as I decide which choice to pull the trigger on, again in excess of 100k :o

But as that old saying goes: money spent...bah, the feeling and joy it brings...priceless :D

I most definitely concur !!!

It'd be impossible to just sit back and save and wait for decades for enthusiasts like us...

And yes, life is too short, as a good friend and engineering colleague of mine always says: your only here for a short time, not a long time, so live life to the fullest that you possibly can in whatever way makes you happiest ;)

I bought a 1982 Jaguar XJ6 in 1992 for $18,000. I then spent $23,000 on it in the next 7 years. Just to keep it on the road and stock...

Everyone should own a Jaguar at least once in their life, it makes all other marques seem cheap to maintain 8)

Most if not all my work/mods also carried out by myself, otherwise you could add further 10's of thousands to that massive amount I've already spent...

Not just for the sake of money, but it's all the more satisfying I find doing whatever you can yourself and much easier to maintain/fix if something goes wrong, because you'll know exactly what was done in the 1st place :)

That's true, but for car enthusiasts or if your just plain crazy about cars, the money loss equation never comes into it...the joy and euphoria of it all is priceless IMHO...

Yes, you could play it smart and buy near new or S/H and save lots of $$$ from depreciation, but that special feeling and experience you get when purchasing 'your dream car/s' brand spanking new and taking delivery off the showroom floor is priceless...for me I want to be able to do it over and over again, so far I've done it 3 times hopefully a 4th time next year :)

As already stated in my initial post on this thread, I've spent over a 1/2 million dollars on cars over the past 25 years and have no regrets or 2nd thoughts about losses - NONE !!!!!

In fact I'm about to spend BIG once again as soon as I can :)

Then of course there are the unforseen events (like the current economic climate) that come along and cause havoc, benefitting some and not others, nothing much you can do about it, except hopefully benefit and pick up a bargain :)

not much but as a ratio to the cost of the car its well up there.

6500 - Car
800 at least - I.C.E
800 - Tyres
720 - Exhaust

so mods around $2320 probably higher.
And i can always find more to spend money on hence why i work 4 jobs. (see community thread)
and im a student. yay, NOT

not much but as a ratio to the cost of the car its well up there.

6500 - Car
800 at least - I.C.E
800 - Tyres
720 - Exhaust

so mods around $2320 probably higher.
And i can always find more to spend money on hence why i work 4 jobs. (see community thread)
and im a student. yay, NOT

Good on you Shay, that's a great attitude !

I too spent nearly 10 years working 2 jobs at one stage all through my 20's, engineering by day, night filling at a supermarket by night...great money and spent it the way I wanted to ;)

Even when I was younger, through the school holiday breaks, whilst most kids were out playing, flogging themselves or simply vegetating and doing nothing, I'd be working through those holiday breaks earning money, by the time I was 18, I had 8k to spend on my 1st car, back then that was equivalent to having about 30 or 40k today :)

Hard work and dedication always pays off and makes the rewards at the end of it all so much sweeter ;)

that's true, but for car enthusiasts or if your just plain crazy about cars, the money loss equation never comes into it...the joy and euphoria of it all is priceless imho...

Just think how much money people lose in deprecation when buying expensive new cars...

So you spend 65-95K on some new toy, 2-3 years later you just blew $25-45k in deprecation alone.

digifish

Yeah good point, see it everyday working at a prestige car dealer, makes my spending over the last few years a bit more viable, although most of the customers i see have the bank account to match the car purchased whereas i don't!!

Hahaha LOL good point :)

Truth of the matter is for us car freaks, if we had the money for car/s we wanted, we'd spend it and get the car/s, simple as that ;)

If I had a few million $$$ to spend, I wouldn't hesitate for a second in getting all of the cars in my wish list below :)

I concur...

That's the attitude ;)

You will all realise this as you get older and older - life is way too short, live it up as happily/best as you can :)

Rough estimate on prices for mods,

Car $12,000
Lights 150
Tyres 600
Exhaust 300
Opel badges 30
Head Unit 250
Swaybar 270
Repairs/Paint i think 1000
Servicing, parts etc add a bit more

So it is around 14,000 all up and 4k on mods

Probably spent more somewhere else but cannot remember

Not much but being my first car and only 19 i think it is enough:D

I've spent well over 10k on the ICE set up alone in my vert :o and that's only for the hardware/components...

Handling and appearance puts the bill at well over 20k and like you havn't touched the engine yet, except for a re-map...

And yes it's all priceless :)

Damn, sorry to hear about your mishap, but hopefully it is 'only' 2k's worth of damage, it sounds like alot more from the description...

Best of luck with it...
