has now been driven by a few journos and it looks like it might be back on the top of the hot hatch pile:

0-100 in 5.3 and a quarter mile in the low 13s straight from the factory

i also think the sedan looks way better than the 2008 pregnant Getz i mean WRX hatch :)

Suburu don't understood what the problem was. No one had issues with the power output, it was the design of the car that put people off.

bugger me..

i know i'm going to be an minority, but i like it..

definately a car to consider in your budget is $40k.

performance bargain.

yes if those acceleration times are real its an incredible car for the money. something doesn't sound right though, a 13.3 quarter mile would make it as fast as an R8 or F6

now its been pointed out i agree the rear looks a bit dumpy. i wouldn't buy a WRX any other way though, if i had a performance car i'd prefer it not to scream performance to everyone, and a car with a bonnet scoop that is big enough to suck in all sorts of wildlife doesn't really do that.

guess i'm one of the new market that Subaru is trying to target with the new softer rex...

re: 13.3 don't forget they have AWD advantage.

in gear accelaration would be slower than the R8 or F6.

I wonder how it would perform against an MPS3 in terms of in gear acceleration.

In any case, seems like cheap power to me.

I like it, ie: the hatch, but then I've always been a fan of the new gen. Impreza, but must say I don't like the look of the new Impreza sedan...

Low 13's stock standard from a base model WRX is awesome, also just goes to show how important an AWD advantage is in these sorts of cars, performance of this revamped variant is truly impressive, it must have some serious top end whack to go from a low 5 to 100km/h and then achieve a low 13sec 1/4 mile time, a low 5 will usually net around mid 13's...
Or as per the usual case with these Japanese cars, the power and torque numbers are higher than what's been advertised ;)

Quick question, if the saloon/sedan is headed for the 'top of the hot hatch' pile, what class does the 'hatch' version now belong too, is that now headed to the top of the hot sedan pile, (non-sedan pile!?) How does a sedan suddenly get to become a 'top hatch'?

PS:- Definately makes the hatch look good - or is that the sedan, totally confused now  I know, the one with the boot sucks!

My understanding is the hatch is getting the same power figures in my09 spec

never said it was good looking, but you cannot deny it is a bargain for the power/speed you get..

the lancer ralliart has lots of power on paper, but just too damn to compete against the MY09.

good point. i should have said 'top of the cheap thrills' pile :p

it sounds like a lot of people prefer the look of the hatch, but its sedan all the way for me! personally i find the hatch really ugly except the STi variant...amazing what a few flared wheel archs and sharper angles can do for a cars look

I too really like the sedan. Compared to the hatch that is. Mind you i think they both stink looks wise! Great performance figures though! They have a new turbo in these ones. Same as the sti i think. Gone is the TD04L turbo for the WRX.

Lets be honest,

The WRX is an ugly looking car made to look even worse because the rear wheels do not sit out far enough.

IMO if the track was wider in the rear it would definately look more purposeful.

Hey guys, I checked out the new WRX yesterday and I reverse my original opinion on the sedan...

I now agree with Lithium/rusole - in a way :ie I still prefer the hatch but would seriously consider the sedan :)

It looks ALOT better in real life than in any pics I've seen !

I checked out an RS model, not the rex variant, but they are pretty much the same except for the bonnet scoop...

Not bad looking car at all, especially side on and the rear is actually not too bad IMHO, it almost looks like a smaller Liberty in real life, it has the same rear bumper features, the twin exhaust tips are a nice touch :)
