Well some of you may or may not know my car was involved in a hail storm a few years back.
It was fixed and resprayed under insurance.
Know the paint job was pretty shotty, and I;m alwyas finding more wrong with it.
This is what i found today.
I'm so glad I'm getting someone decent to do it, he has done a few show cars.
Has seen his work, it's awesome!

First pic is off my fone, then rest of camera.
I was so shocked i had to get better pictures.

Couldnt get one clip off, so painted right over, but replaced one next to it.

The result when the clip has been taken off!

No mounts for the clips, simple. Just add a small screw!

Is that a run I see?

That run off is ridiculous. I'm actually experiencing the same issue with mine due to my recent accident....rust has started the attack a few weeks after getting the car back! Not haapy!!

So how much is it going to cost you for the professional job? Full respray?

shouldn't it have lifetime warranty on repairs?

poita

Should be all good in the end Pete as your getting it re-done ;)

Ice, 3k these days for a high quality full re-spray is cheap !!!

Normally a good 2 pack or backed enamel re-spray (same colour) on a medium sized car including all work and labour (diss-assembly, re-assembly and all preporatory work) will cost at least 4-5k and up to 8-10k for a total show quality job using the best paint...and alot more if your chainging the cars colour...

John, lifetime warranty where apllicable or stated only applies to the original owner when the repairs were carried out - once you sell the car to someone else, the warranty dosn't apply anymore, in either case you need to check your individual repair job if it was guarateed that way to begin with, not all insurance jobs have lifetime warranty.

that's a damn big paint run
is it normal for car repainters to do that? maybe they think 'noone will see it anyway, its under the trim'?

I'm having a car resprayed (Bare shell, bare metal).

The painter is just running the gun for colour and clear.

I will be priming and blocking it down.

I'm looking at 6K mates rates.... (but full in and out colour change, on a rotisserie)

so 3K is cheap!!!

For cars that age it's probably more economic to just sell yours and look for the same car different colour on the 2nd hand market

or not.

mine's gonna need a respray too. but at least its a simple white surface respray. all the other work will already be done by myself.

Considering a paint job costs ~$6k....how much is a nice 2nd hand Calibra?

having worked in panel shops myself. insurance jobs r to be in and out as fast as possible. so if a paint run is going to be covered by a mould they will let it go. 3k is cheap for a respray. i just painted my van and was about $1200 using cheap paint and i havent even got round to painting the roof yet!!!

depending on what you've got and what you're selling.

Personally, i wouldnt be changing teh colour nd full rebuild of a day to day car.. and by full re-build I mean rotisserie. Would be cheaper to sell and buy something NEW.

But if it's unique, and going to be something that doesnt see a drop of water (unless it is de-ionised), then fair enough...
I've seen some restorations that have been devalued by new paint jobs, and I've seen some that skyrocket in value due to teh re-build. All depends on what and why you're doing it I guess.

As I said.. if it's a day-day runabout, I wouldnt bother.. but, back on topic, a paint run like that is simply unacceptable, let alone the change in the peel of the paint! If it's just a run, can they rub it back and give a fly coat and away you go??
