MY04 Barina SRI.. becoz i think the only real astras left are *classics*.. <coughs> pov packs.

you can always wait for the Astra H....due real soon.

Barina SRI has the performance of the astra <1.8L> in a smaller more sleek package.

Just find a runout Barina SXi. They are still around (suttons have them) and are better value than the current model barina.

Astras have ridiculously high resale prices, mainly because they are desireable cars and are rarely bought be large fleets, Hence bugger all available with less than 100,000 K's.

Barinas may be 13990 + ORC, but 18 months ago they were 14,990 + air + ORC so resellers will be hard to bargain with. If you buy a new one count yourself lucky if you get free floormats, cause they've got bugger all to play with.

If you want something with style and a bit of performance you can't go past the Barina SRi, I think that you should be able to get an MY02.5 (the one's with power windows and mirrors) for less than 20K (maybe $10 less), or MY01/02 (no fast glass) for mid-High teens.

Happy hunting :D

Air has always been standard, even though you had to pay extra.

There was no option for power options on earlier ones, be on the look out for after market power windows, they are not as good as the factory ones, they dont have auto up/down or catch protection. You can pick them by the speed they travel and the position of the buttons, Factory ones are on the door trim above the handle.

A few Barina SRi's coming up for second hand sale now - around the 16-19 grand mark. Looking about mid-late 02-early 03.

Red book is a tool for insurance companies, It does not illistrate the correct market condition due to its method of calculation. Red book shows that these cars are depreciated at a set rate.

A good example '01 VX Exec 33000 New, red book say 51% over 3 years = $16800, True value = about that. VX Man "S" Pack 36000 New, Red book say 53% over 3 years = $19000, True Value = more like $25,000 - $29,000. Depending on condition.

Astra is pegged at 56% resale after 3 years, 1998 Astra city 5DR was (working on memory here) about 19,000 with air (+ORC) X0.56=10,640X0.56=5960. When was the last time anyone seen a 98 Astra City selling for less than $6000. I think more like 10-12K.

This method does not allow for any unused rego, and the pecentage points are estimates based on history, so basically they are 3 year old rates. In some cases they can be spot on, but dont use redbook to justify a purchase, How can VT/VX's be 51% and AU's be 49%, Just 2 percentage points, in real life they are more like 15-20% apart.
