"Ja, Bjorn, tink dat's de new Astra? Shoor looks like it, Jan. Lutz will be asking you to kiss this thing (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/20/seriously-kiss-my-astra/) when it comes out from under that checkerboard camo. The current Astra is good, and the new one promises to be better, with looks that aren't revolutionary, but nicely done nonetheless. We'll see this world car version of the Astra sometime around 2011 with a variety of drivetrains, including hybrid power. The C-Pillar remains obscured, leaving our curiosity about the hatch's ultimate form unfulfilled. From what we can see, though, the new Astra will be like the current Astra - competitively styled and priced."

I'm getting pretty confused on this topic...

Is the next Astra coming from Opel or Daewoo ????

Can't really comment on cammo pics as you can't see the damn thing properly, but that pic above looks like a POS...

I agree... I think it's going to turn out like the Corsa & the Barina which we now know to be a Daewoo, they co-exist but with different names... Silly if you ask me, but again, bad move from Holden...

Yeah the Corsa is purely an Opel. But my way of thinking was that there will probably be two different versions of the Astra's out there at the end.

I thought the current Corsa had links with the Fiat Punto.

have to wait to see it without the camouflage - doesnt look like it's THAT different to the AH though...

This model has the vauxhall grille on it. Front bumper looks very similar to current model. Side mirror is corolla style now and has the honda jaz extra little window. windscreen and roof looks very similar to AH. somehow, the guards have become more round if you know what I mean. Headlight looks like a mixture of the AH and TS lights.

From what I have heard, it is designed by Opel but built by Daewoo...but I might be wrong.

That's exactly what I thought when I looked at the above pic. that's why I asked the question...looks to me the new Astra will be from the Daewoo parts bin and not from Opel...

It's only a matter of time before the entire GMH Opel line up is replaced with a Daewoo line up.

Oh well being they're in drag as were Opels before them, it shouldn't matter to the majority of the population out there who have no idea anyway that the only Holden actually made by Holden is the Commodore range.

Agreed !
Its sometimes difficult to see why Holden make some of the descisions they make ! They have built up a good rep with the astra and now with this new model it will no douby go downhill. The guy in charge is probably thinking about his budget and nothing else. Holden suck ass !

Most definitely business decision and based purely on $$$ at the end of the day...

GM Global acquired (or should that be rescued) Daewoo some years back and I suppose it makes sense for them to now exploit their new Korean car factories and labour cost savings...

Don't think most (non-car enthusiast) end users care, as long as they get a cheap/reasonably priced car at the end of the day that dosn't fall apart, if they get that part of it right, GMH will prosper - passionate car enthusiasts will go elsewhere !!!

I don't see how this looks "daewoo".

Yes, this will share the Delta II Platform with the new Chevrolet Cruze/Holden Viva/Daewoo Lacetti but thats it.

The Astra is still designed and engineered by Opel.

i think its too early to speculate, the camo really hides alot of the shape and looks on this car i think.
for the time being though, looking at the pic, whether its daewoo or opel, its bloody hideous!

I see the opel theme in this car. the new wing markings in the head lamps that are on the Insignia. Just been watching some pod cast then on the insgina and opel will use the wing design in all future models. if people are unsure what im refering to take a look at the head lamps of the mule astra and the insignia.
