hi Vec2nspyr, welcome to Opelaus! :)

according to the RTA, for all drivers regardless of license type, *any * modification you make to a factory engine needs to be inspected and certified by an automotive engineer. this definitely includes open element air filters like the pod filters, especially oiled types like the K&N as they can ignite if they are mounted incorrectly and touch a hot engine part eg. exhaust. technically, even the drop-in panel filters need to be engineered.

in practice, if the cops pull you over and ask you to pop the bonnet - if they see a pod filter, its a defect, no question. on the other hand it is very unlikely that they will ask you to unscrew your airbox to inspect your panel filter. so if you are worried, go panel

truthfully unless you are being a dick or have other attention attracting mods (loud exhaust, 20inch rims, custom paint job, big lump in the bonnet, etc) the cops won't have a reason to pull you over - noone will know if you've got a pod filter under the bonnet

if i might recommend - if you are after performance, go the panel filter. honestly neither will give you a noticeable gain, but its well known that underbonnet pod filters (without a sealed cold air intake) will reduce your engine power as your engine now has to suck hot air in from the engine bay.

hope this helps and happy modding
