Hi all,

I don't actually own an Astra but I have a friend that does and he needs some help with a water pump, t belt and thermo replacement. K mart T@A quoted him 3k so I'm going to try and save him some bread.

Threads I've seen so far look great. From other people I've talked to the camshaft timing sensor seems to be an achilies heel.

Thanks for all of the info

Cheers

Phil

where are you located mate?

K-Mart is trying to rip him a new ring hole @ 3k.

source the parts from www.autovaux.co.uk will be ALOT cheaper in parts cost. fitment, if you have the right tools and some mechanical knowlege is not that hard (assuming this is an Astra G (TS) )

$3k is far too much to pay for that work. i think you'd be able to get that done for less than $1k including parts at a good workshop. recently someone here was quoted $1400 from a Holden dealership

$3k sounds more like the cost if your friends timing belt had snapped (hope not!) - have to pull the head and replace all those bent valves :(

getting it done at holden will even be cheaper than kmart! 1.5k-2k max
even cheaper if you do it yourself.

as suggested above, but from autovaux, he will save a mint! even after paying int post. i know ill be buying from there when im due for next timing belt etc.
asked a similar question the other week, and a very friendly forum member posted these links which show how to replace,

Thanks everyone for all of the great links and advice.

I've perused the timing belt link and it all looks pretty straight forward but I have heard of the timing sensor falling apart when taken off, so i'll try to be carefull.

K-mart was probably ripping him off but I thinh that they were doing other work as well. Will look over the car tonight and make an asesment.

Thanks again.

Cheers
