...And what a gutless, wheezy excuse for GM engineering it is.

Even with Sports-Mode switched on, it still couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

I can't say I'm impressed... Actually I'm ****ing disappointed.

Hell, even my old Barina with its tired old slushbox would've beaten it at the lights...pfft.

its a bloody wagon. if u want speed, buy an sri-t or vxr. wagons are meant to provide lots of space..not to go fast.

haha..true! thats a good point. I guess that one could be classified as a sports wagon...:p

CDTi wagon would be auto though (with 88KW of power and a fair bit of torque, it will feel powerful but wont be much faster I reckon)

Nope no STi wagons for us here in Australia, just regular WRX's - plus the Impreza wagon looked weird - practical, but weird. :D

I think they are awesome, Subaru do the best wagons. My Brother used to have a GTB wagon and it hauled ass.

errr.....i wouldn't agree with that.
we do have liberty sti wagons here. have a look on carsales.com.au n u'll c a couple. go to ur subaru sti dealer n u'll find them there too.
it doesn't show on the their website - yes. why? i dunno.

but yeah.....i've never liked the new ah astras - except for the turbo & vxr versions. all the other ones - no thanks. and yeah....don't even mention power - it SUX. my astra ain't exactly zippy, yet they put the same engine in a bigger car!!! good on ya opel/holden!!!

Was a marketing exercise if anything, they weren’t factory built STI and they were only 190 odd kw.

TTEETT was asking about the STi V4 Wagon which is an Impreza - my reply of we don't get any STi wagons was relating to an Impreza's - why I also said we just get regular WRX's. I wasn't talking about the Liberty/Legacy wagons - and the ones you see on carsales that are Australian Domestic vehicles are NOT STi Liberty's - they are Liberty GT's that are "tuned" by STi (different wheels, suspension, computer, exhaust etc) they are NOT a genuine STi car. You won't see a a STi badge on the car, only a "Tuned by STi" badge.

TTEETT - I'd love a Lib/Leg GT wagon or even a Forester, the Impreza wagon though, I just dont think I could do it... :D

Yeah the engine is disappointing, but spend enough time in one, and you learn how to really "drive" the thing..... and this is from someone who currently has an AH CDX 5 door in the family (put on roughly 15,000km this year so far) and put 90,000+km on an AH CD 5 door in an 11 month period....

Trust me, you really learn how to "drive" one, if you can spend enough time in one that is (or can stand spending enough time in one).

As for the wagon variant.... I happen to like them (closest to the interior space of a Veccy C CDXi).

I wouldn't touch a 1.8 Astra, ever. Ditto the auto diesel, which is neither quick or particularly economical. The Astra is just too heavy for a 1.8, and the wagon is heavier..

When I discovered there was a 2.2 model Astra, thats when I got interested. Unfortunately, the 2.2 was short-lived. So today, I wouldn't buy a new Astra, I'd buy something else with a bit more go.

Fair enough Tfer. Next time I get the keys to it, I'll try not to be perhaps quite so blinkered.

An Astra SRI-T Touring would be cool and would probably do quite well.

I agree, would have had one too (in silver though) if the wife didn't "hate" wagons so much.......

but a CR-V is NOT a wagon apparantly....

One of my fav. words used in certain occaisions - anal sfinkta :D

But agree, anyone looking for even a little spirited performance/drive capability from a car, should steer well clear of 'most' Astra models...

I'd have to agree. Gotta say though... the flash, Eibachs and rear sway bar i've done to mine... AWESOME!!
