View Full Version : 2009 Focus RS

I know this topic was posted up a while ago, but recently some more factual pics and info have surfaced on this car...

Pity, it's not the predicted hot rod some expected it to be - rumours of AWD and 240-260kw are down the toilet, shame :( Bornwild will have tears :D

Still on the bright side, if it ends up looking as good as the chopped pics, it'll be a stunning hatch...

Power is called up as 206kw and 400nm from the now very common IL5 cylinder engine.

It'll have FWD with LSD - probably exactly the same system as used in the Mazda 3 MPS ??

I am a real fan of the XR5 and look forward to seeing how this one turns out, but I can't help wondering how much better it'll be

For myself, i'm one to buy a stock car... and do my own little mods to it

The XR5... with a set of Eibachs and a Dreamscience flash, is a pretty awesome car (ableit a very thirsty one... 14-15 L/100kms)

Obviously the LSD will be needed, and will help

If it ever comes here, the price difference will be interesting:)

Although I have to agree. Looks like all the other fords just with a squashed ass, fugly spoiler well wing and colour...

Definatly better than the current version thats on the road now. The rear looks much the same and the shape. However, the front looks better.

Still would not buy one though.

Being an Opel and Ford owner makes me a little less biased lol!

But I like!!!!!!! alot lol. If the real version looks like that and we actually get the RS version here, sign me up lol, I'm going to get slammed for this, but I even like the colour.

Hopefully Opel pumps out some good loooking hatches in the next few years and we actually get them here.

Well personally...I hate the new shape/look of the LV XR5 Focus.

The RS is good...but im rather annoyed that Ford decided to make it FWD instead of AWD.

I doubt it will come down under...due to limited production and costs.

They can hardly keep up with supplying the new XR5 here.

Our market is small, so it will be $50K+ and I doubt ppl will pay that premium for a bodykit, tuned engine and LSD.

You can buy a XR5 and add DS or Bluefin...with other minor mods and LSD to make a cheaper and faster looking sleeper.

Or better still....just buy a 3 MPS.

Like everything I see, except for those cheap and tacky looking bonnet vents - FFS you'd think they could've done better than that, they look like the ones used on the original '70's Escorts

I believe the bright green promotional colour is being used to try and step away from and clearly separate this variant from the basic XR5 Focus, which used that bright electric orange colour...it dosn't look too bad at all though in this colour IMO, although I'd take one in white :)

USC

I would take one in Red. Agree with the vents..they might change them in series 2 or something.

I just hope that the performance and dynamics are a match for the look of the car.

Damn pity about the absence of AWD :( most definitely to keep costs down...lets wait and see how it's actually going to be priced, to see if it's justified

Your right about the old school look Poita, they're trying to achieve some sort of link/tie to the previous Cosworth Escorts of the 70's...only those vents really spoil the picture IMHO, otherwise it's not too bad...

I could see myself in one of these despite the Ford badge :o

BUT those vents and DEFINITELY that rear wing would have to go !!! seriously that wing is something a 13-16 year old would find exciting to look at, I doubt it has any real World benifit for the street driving enviroment anyway...

For around 43k you'll be able to get yourself a new Ralliart Lancer !

I like it and I'd buy one.....

I think it looks really good, even in the green. The long, sloping rear hatch and the guard vents are nice additions....

As for not being AWD, Ford seem to think that with the new front suspension and the factory LSD, they have solved the torque steer/wheel spin problem...

Time will tell... ;)

was checking one out last weekend while we was at the nurburgring, was in black (colour i would recommend to pull it all together) and it looked nice, seen the slap togher one at the Brit motorshow and it looked very show boaty, rear wing was very gimicky and overkill, rear diffuser also looked cartoony, i was more taken back by the Renault Sport R26R which is where i would spend my monry in all honesty, looked hard core and very much the most driver car of the lot.......

will get some pics up i took at the motorshow

to date Ford havent matched the Renault R26.R's time of the ring of 8min 12, and the meg is only putting out 230ps over the RS's 300, saying that the RS will be giving away over 200kg in kerb weight,
my money would still be on the R26.R as the most driver focused hot hatch.

gman
30th July 2008, 10:12 AM
100% agree...The Renault R26.R would be the quickest and most "focused" (pun intended) hot hatch out there ATM...

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t262/aussiegman/eurp_0808_01_zmegane_renaultsport_r.jpg

Having lost 200kgs though polycarbonate windows, no interior etc etc al la F430 Scuderia / 997 GT3RS, its power to weight will kill any other hot hatch around...

http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t262/aussiegman/eurp_0808_03_zmegane_renaultsport_r.jpg

It would be a weapon on the track...Being so light, it would handle a dream, especially on change of direction etc..
I just can't get over that ass, and its a BIG ass!!!!

The Renault R26R has posted an 8.17 on the Nurburgring....that is VERY fast.

i would still prefer the everyday usability of the RS.

Yep the ADR's would see no 6 point harnesses, glass not poly windows and a raft of other changes that would negate the weight

Always admired how good this car is, but I too just can't get over the look of the thing - that rear end is unique, but damn fugly too...

I'm with Mizled on this one, ie: I'd prefer the basic Focus Xr5 and spend a small bit of the huge change on modding that variant, for me, that would give the best combination of looks, power, performance and everyday usability :)

Or maybe wait n see what the new Mazda 3 MPS shapes out like...seen pics in the latest wheels or Motor mag (can't remember which one) but damn it looks HOT...it should also feature some of the trick new LSD and chassis updates/improvements of the new Focus and a more powerful tune from the 2.3ltr engine or possibly a turbo variant of Mazdas new 2.5ltr donk...

The new Mazda 3 looks great...but I will wait for the final verdict when it hits a motorshow stand.

Engines are up in the air...no one knows...its either the same 2.3L DISI or 2.5L DISI...or even talks about the Volvo 5cyl focus engine being used.

Either way...Mazda say the new MPS3 will have a more aggressive stance than the current <bland> sleeper model look.

I personally expect mazda to raise the bar again and hit around 210kw ...breaking into Evo..STI..comparo

Not a fan of the Reno...fast isnt always good ...if your driving something fugly...and the Focus isnt that bad...except the Kermit Green paint.

I think your right Dug, that's exactly what I was thinking - around 210kw and 420nm (same as the previously proposed extreme demo car) if they retain the 2.3ltr and more if a 2.5 DISI is introduced, which would be fantastic...

No doubt alot of the mechanicals and chassis will be shared from the Focus RS, so for me, this new MPS 3 would be a very good choice of car to have :)

As you say, lest just wait and see what it ends up looking like, if it takes design cues from both the new 6 and 2, it'll look fantastic, I read Mazda are going for an improved interior (IMHO nothing wrong with the current one) and reduced in cabin road noise, all adds up to a top car - hopefully it does end up looking like the pics in the mags, if so Mazda are onto another winner yet again ;)
