I havent even seen it yet, but all i know is that the Sti beat the evo around their track

(i did hear it was only 0.02 seconds tho, but a win is a win!!! especially since the exo had the o-so-fabulous gearbox!)

It may have won but Clarkson was not a fan at all. The Sti did look more spectacular on the track though Stig really got some attitude on it coming through the last few corners.

They also had 2 types of Evo, the normal one and more powerful version, shame we don't get both over here. The race was between the normal one and the Sti.

when he says normal one he means the one with 300HP as opposed to the one with 360HP

they did that coz the sti has 300hp

BR the new Sti has beaten the Evo 10 in just about all of the track test/reviews that have ever happened since these 2 were released, so that's no surprise...:)

It has the much better power/weight ratio, the fact that the Evo 10 is always so close with a big deficit in power/weight ratio always suggests how good it's AWD set up and chassis is and why most test reviewers still pick it in the end despite laging behind the Sti...

From what I've seen of modified examples though, the Evo 10 is pretty much impossible to beat...

er...as above. the "FQ" evo's in the uk are modified by the dealers..

you can get them in FQ300 (basically std evo 300hp), FQ360(360hp), and FQ400(400hp yes please.).

Not fair at all putting a modified car vs the std car, that would be like putting my old astra vs a stock astra = no chance. :boohoo:

Both looked gay to me, especially with Clarkson at the wheel! Just Fast Tupperware, I mean in comparison to the German metal featured I would have forgotten they were even on the show.. That Mercedes CLK Black Edition

Correct, it was a fair race because the base model evo (300hp) was used against the sti (300hp).

The price difference was interesting also with the evo being more expensive over there than the sti, anyone know official pricing on the evo for here yet?

......and for everyone who wants to download Top Gear and is sick of torrents etc. Get an easynews account $10 a month for all the worldwide TV you could want and plenty of everything else as well! :)

I reccommend www.eztv.it (http://www.eztv.it) for all ur tv torrents along with www.mininova.org (http://www.mininova.org) for every other torrent, they have links to the eztv torrents anyways so mininova is the bomb and doesnt have any porn on it so when you search something random like tree you dont get strange results.

97.3% downloaded cant wait!

I know he didn't do much at all. The only thing i got out of it was that Mercedes had taken out loads of stuff from it and it still weighed more than the original model. The sound of it......mannnnn

If it handled 10 times better, it would have won ;).

If it wasnt for the 10k option for the SST transmission, it would have been more than a second off the pace :).

There just seems to be a lot of EVO/STI Japanese loving going on around here as of late and its hilarious, it seems a lot of you hold them in high regard.

They are seriously not that special in the steal! Just Japanese appliances that go from point a to point b quickly and IMHO you would be better off with a nice daily driver and a race car for the track as whilst these two pretend to be able to do both they are in actual fact compromised in both respects.

And for those of us that arent millionaires, we will buy an evo/sti and get the best of both worlds, even if they are 'compromised'.

LOL...

The 'Japanese car loving' you mention, is actually 'respect' of certain types of Japanese hi-po cars and obviously an unbiased approach and review/discussion !

I don't think anyone who has even the smallest knowledge of cars would dispute the performance prowess of either the Evolution series or the Sti's not only recently, but from the beginning ! and there are many other Japanese hi-po cars that topple the best of them, not only now, but in the past also...

I think BR's mentioned one of the best aspects about them and ie: bang for buck, they at the top of the tree and in terms of quality of finish, kit etc. they are ever improving...

Ideally it would be great for any car enthusiast to have a garage full of all types of vehicles for all occaisions, but fact is, the great majority cannot afford to do so, therefore a choice like an Evo or Sti is a very good one, as it comes very close to giving you a bit of both Worlds, ' if ' that's what you want ;)

AFAIK the pricing will be 56k-62k from base to range topping 'MR' variant with SST trans. + ORC's...

Remember also, there will be the turbo charged AWD Ralliart variant which will be priced around 41-42k + ORC's and will offer the SST trans as an option too :)

I would never knock their performance credentials, especially on a less than perfect B road! If you chose a car based entirely on its ability to go from point A to point B really fast (especially if you are a ham fisted driver) these cars are brilliant.

Maybe they have a different perception in Australia. They have a bad stigma attached over here, 95% of them are driven by Asians and guys that are not that well endowed.

lol totally agree, i would much rather drive a S3 for sure.

Dont really like the new look of either the STI or the EVO, the 99-00 model STI was the best looking and the EVO 6-8 range was the best looking.

I like the Evo III and VI or STI Version 1 or 4 as they are clearly not a run of the mill Lancer/Impreza and they actually did well in Rally. I had a VIII MR for a day a few years back and it was a seriously quick car to drive but was ultimately flawed due to excessively hard ride, a hard clutch, crap interior, excessive turbo lag and fuel consumption. IMO The new STI is defiantly the better or the two in terms of style and detailing.

That's fair enough guys, each to their own :)

SSSHoon and TTEETT don't like em, Elburito wishes he could have one, BR has one, I certainly wouldn't mind one, but keeping my options open as I'm not ready to buy just yet - it's all good, at the end of the day, whatever makes one happy, for ones own reasons, that's what it's all about ;)

Oh and the demographic for these cars is changing - that was the intent the manufacturers !

On the Evo 10 forum I'm a member of, up to 90% of Evo 10 owners are 1st time Evo owners !!! not previous generations of Evo owners and most are older people, not your typical younger crowd usually associated with these cars - I'd say it will be the same in most Countries :)

Hell I even wonder if i should have saved myself 20k and bought an evo 9....

It’s not that I don’t like them, I do, it’s just I dislike the hype and image that surrounds them. I also don’t like the way they are judged purely on performance credentials, and how there grip is confused with handling, I have seen an Evolution 10 beaten at a track day by a Honda Civic :)

They are a lot cheaper over here hence the younger crowd, I could have had an EVO 8 for 30k when I was 23.

i was looking at optus website the other day and found out that they have changed their internet broadband plans. more cash and less limit with no off peak what is the go with that?

Ours is up soon, hope we can keep the current plan and not have to change to the new ones.
