The 1.6L turbo replaces the 2L turbo (125KW - a variant used in opel in europe) and produces 132KW!!! Also states that the 1.6L turbo is much more economical than the 2L turbo.

Impressive. But having 2.0, the engine wouldnt be working as hard (in theory).

No surprise a 1.6 turbo will consume less than a 2.0ltr turbo - but what about performance...will a more powerful engine be used for a VXR model only in future ??

So the next Astra T will have less power than previous models ?? will it weigh accordingly less too ?? if not it won't be good for performance or economy

kinda like the new civic type r, bring out a newer heavier slower less powerful car.
makes perfect sense.......

no. thats only for europe..they always had a 125KW 2L turbo (germany and other european countries I think ) with low emission and a 147kw 2L turbo (some european countries got that engine in their OPC) and finally a higher output vxr Engine.

they are replacing the 2L 125kw with a 1.6L 132KW.

so the srit will still be the 147kw 2l and the vxr the same 2l with 177(whatever it is)?

the 1.6T is good for 142kw though as it is in the Corsa VXR, I would speculate that if that is going to replace the 2L in the GMH variant we would get that level of tune

Ahh, I see, that makes much more sense :)

The current AH...yes.

but the new 2009/2010 astra might get the 160KW 2L sri-t with variable valve timing and the VXR will be even more (might get direct injection and variable valve to boost power up to about 195kw)

A lot of european countries only get the 2L (125KW) turbo astra and the 177KW OPC(which is the VXR in europe and the UK). we are lucky to get the 2L 147KW in our sri-t overhere.

You'll find that that 1.6l engine is very, very capable of moving the current AH even. Ask Aussie in London....he has the Corsa OPC.

Don't think that just because an engine is smaller it can't move the same mass as easy as a bigger engine....it doesn't work like that in mechanical engineering. That 1.6l produces more power and same amount of torque(if not more, not sure) than the 2.0l in the AU SRi-T trim.
