Honestly, that some stuff I wouldn't touch... A couple of years back I stuffed up a PC motherboard while re flashing the BIOS. Now, imagine that done to your car! Not too hard to get something going terribly wrong, really...
I'm very happy with the OBDKey, been using it for over a month now.
What I'm trying to do now is to find a way to feed the OBD data into a video capture, on my laptop. Say I drive through the hills and I get video footage of the road with the speed and the revs in one corner, just like during a V8 Supercars race on TV. How cool would that be? At the moment I can get the video and a log of the engine's parameters, read 6-7 times/second. The trick is to combine them somehow...
I'll let you know if done it if I see interest here :D

Taking off in my oiler, the OBD version :)
Click for video here. (http://vimeo.com/2676955)
I'm still experimenting with the microphone position. Not that easy to capture engine sound-too quiet inside, outside there's wind and tyre rumble... I'll nail it eventually :).

Nice...

Is that coolant temp right, 93C?

Yes it is right, but during the video that sensor reading was deactivated and it retained the last read value. I reached 93C while crawling through traffic at 20-30 km/h, followed by 10' idle while playing with the mic. As soon as I got the car moving properly the temperature dropped to 86C. Very interesting to follow the intake manifold air temperature. Idle and at low speeds it goes up to 60C, but get moving and it will drop to high 40s on a low 20s day.
What amazes me the most about this engine is how it purrs at high speed in high gears. Have a look in the second part of the video, it was cruising in 6th at 110 km/h while revving just over 2,100 rpm. Can't even hear the darn thing, either :)
