sorry guys, what i'm trying to say is when you first take off and then change from 1st to 2nd, the revs stay up high unlike other cars.
i test drove one yesterday. and my brother has drove just a standard astra and it does the same thing. i just want to know what everyone thought of it? like does it really bother you? and you can get used to it right?

Ah, now I get ya :)

I've heard of this and it has been discussed before....apparantly most Astras do it - mine does not - some sort of safety feature I think was the end conclusion of that other thread, someone may be able to find it and post a link...

ive driven about 8 different manual astra g's (TS), and 1 h (AH)..

ive never noticed in any of them the revs staying high.. the revs dropped just like any other car..

was the foot completley off the accelerator before the clutch went in?

its the electronic tb. they are really laggy, after a little driving time you adjust to it. happens in sri barina too.

do u have sports mode ON?

apart from that, no - i don't believe the astra revs particularily high compared to other cars.

sports mode is only on auto

+1 on the 2nd half, my astra takes off very well from 3-4k rpm and chnages at 4200-4700rpm :D

Drive a diesel...

i've noticed this when my car is cold... it holds the revs when i change from 1st to 2nd, but after about 30 seconds its fine... and only really in 1st and 2nd gear..

isnt that cause of auto choke?

Isnt the lag in the revs caused by the fly by wire system?
This shouldnt happen in earlier models with mechanical throttle should it?

I have a z18xe and the revs stay high when you change at high rpm ( makes fast gear changes near impossible ) You have to wait for the revs to drop slightly before the gear will engage.

probably is... that's the only time i've noticed the revs staying slightly higher... otherwise it's fine..

i haven't had this problem with mine... z18xe also.. i think dee used to have that issue with hers though.. used to like to crunch at high rpm..

Ive got a Z18XE as well and ive never had any crunching. Can change gears @ about 6400RPM as fast as I can physically move the gearstick with no probs.

It's the fly-by-wire, most cars with the early system do flare a bit, my old '01 TS did it was super annoying!!!!

3rd March 2008, 10:35 PM
as said, it's the fly by wire doint it (electronic throttle).
mine did when i got it, after a lot of high reving the ecu stopped making it do it :D.

Think mine does it as well from time to time, if u slow change from 1st to 2nd.

Mainframe_Module
4th March 2008, 10:19 AM
Hmmm...mine doesnt do that?

vectraguy01
4th March 2008, 09:21 PM
i should of said it does it mine, when ur changing gears btw 5,500-7,000 which i do! lol :p

auzvectra

haha, i think the ecu tends to reduce how much it does it by if you are doing a lot of sudden movements on the throttle, as it needs to respond quicker.

ive found mine flare's no matter your thottle movements. the way to get around i found is just change your timing with your feet.

+1

something you just get used to and adjust your driving style to suit. Found it annoying in the Astra for the first week or two, after that you just get used to it.

I bought an SRi 2.2 Auto because of this,
test drove some manuals and it was shocking,
waiting a second before it would shift,
In a 2.2 the auto's quicker anyway.

i dont like auto's. as a few people have said you get used to it and you change the way you drive to get used it. it'll be fine

Am speaking of the way the revs stay high (Takes ages to drop),
does affect the shift(ie matching the revs).
These were demo models I was test driving and all of them did this.
Even my 60k old 2.2 seems to be unresponsive, or delayed for the revs to drop.
But in an auto it's not a problem.

go the AUTOs!!! woOot :D

after all these years of driving, i've learnt the auto's strengths n weakness n i can manipulate the timing of the gear changes.
i've had some friends tell me that my car feels like a manual at times.

its all about the timing with ur foot ;)

but i still wish i had a manual - nothing better than the joy of manually shifting through those gears.
