Some bad news, I smashed... well wrote my car off today.

Normally going thru a round about, car kicked sideways and i hit the gutter side on.

Front fcuked, rear axle pushed to the side, and the chassis is pretty bent.

Thanks to Mat [MatsHolden] for helping me tonight. Much appreciated mate.

Some pics...

That's probably the understatement of the year.

To push the rear axel so far out of alignment like that, the Barina would need to have been doing some serious sideward G's. Because no car just "kicks out" like that without being provoked.

Terribly sorry to hear of the write off Pauly... But that's NOT normal.

I have never had a car step out on a roundabout without provoking it?? Maybe check for abandoned McDonalds trays or oil spills.

I’d be hoping the insurance assessor has had hid morning ‘E’ for any chance at a claim on that.

Its a stupid accident yes, because of what happened and how it happened. Its funny how you can automatically assume i was driving stupidly and speeding just by those photo's. You're only making an ass of yourself by doing so.

Your insurance company can only refuse to pay out a claim due to dangerous driving ONLY if you are charged by the police for such an offence.

They cannot refuse to pay on the grounds that you were breaking the law (speeding/dangerous driving/alcohol/drugs) unless you have been convicted of the alleged infringement. Even if you are charged and are found not guilty they still have to pay.

If you werent driving dangerously, and you let them stiff you on your isurance then its your own fault, i would end up in court with my insurance company if they tried to imply i was doing something that i was not, and that they couldnt prove.

Our Police would regard this incident as dangerous/careless driving as for a car to end up out of control means one has been careless or has been driving dangerously, my Brother recently lost his licence and his insurance for coming out of a roundabout sideways and collecting a flagpole., hilariously it was the court houses flagpole, a story he has begged me not to tell his kids.

Since I own and run this place, and I consider a lot of you friends of mine, I posted it up so they knew what happened. Those who expressed their sympathies and well wishes, I've very grateful for that, but it was not what I was after.

Live and learn... yes master...
What I've learnt from this? Shit can happen at any time, at any speed, and regardless of what driving experience we have, sometimes there's simply nothing we can do about it.

Shit happens.. I know when i was driving my dads car once (A camry... FWD V6 FTW!) the back end kicked out and there was no explaination for it... i gained control but it felt like something picked up the back of the car and threw it...

JA PIERDOLE! Pawelku! najwazniesze to zdrowie! ;)

so from what i can gather you still want to get another Opel?? Thats good! :)

how about you and i import couple of FSO POLONEZ and supercharge them instead...heh??? (just kidding)

PS.

will the insurance company allow you to strip parts from your car before writing it off???

Our Police would regard this incident as dangerous/careless driving as for a car to end up out of control means one has been careless or has been driving dangerously, my Brother recently lost his licence and his insurance for coming out of a roundabout sideways and collecting a flagpole., hilariously it was the court houses flagpole, a story he has begged me not to tell his kids.

so you could tell me 100% that all cars lose control because of the drivers? that's horse shit... they're machines, parts wear and break..

and it's not that hard to lose control of a car even if you drive like a granny...

anyway, hope you get it all sorted soon Pauly.

i guess its "good" its a write off...on the other hand i really understand how much work and care Pawel put in this car so its sad to see it go, i am sure that if he could he would like to bring it back on the road again :(

If I could, I'd have kept it for a while.
Those that have been in the car or seen it on the road knew how it performed and what it was capable of.
I loved it for all those reasons.

I doubt my new one will be like that. Maybe... i dunno... but it'll take a while like this one has.

Again, as i said yesterday, you're still bloody alive, we can replace the black jellybean but it is a sad loss, many fun times in the beep-beep!!!

TTEETT, having been in Pauly's car many many a time i know how well it handled in all conditions!!!

It would have been more than likely that the car would have understeered if there was excessive speed involved being FWD, but no in this incident the back stepped out indicating there was more than likely some oil of some sort on the road.

Pauly had just purchased some of the best tyres on the market, so even in the wet had remarkable grip, unfortunately no tyre will grip on an oily surface!!!

For you to assume he was doing something stupid is just plain idiotic and very unsympathetic and i trust in another event like this, you think before you speak!!!

END RANT

Pauly, all the best with it all, i'll keep a lookout for any good cars for you and hope to see you back on the roads soon!!!

P.S. LS1 tickle your fancy?? LOL!!!

pauly mustn't be with racv then... they used to insure me when i had a small accident about 7 years ago. 2k damage, was driving alone at night and a similar thing to pauly happened, all of a sudden i was being questioned about being under the influence of drugs and alcohol and they wanted to know where i was and where i was going and what time it was and how i got there and who i was with and why i was there... mother****ers will never see my money ever again

if only they knew i had snorted a gram of cocaine, drunk a bottle of wild turkey, taken ecstacy, speed, lsd and i was drag racing a ferrari at 300km/h after picking up 3 prostitutes at a brothel and shooting someone in the knee caps.....

haha just kidding

I would... seriously I would... but since GmH have the same size a-hole as an ant, I doubt we'll ever see this car coming down to Aus.

LS1... hahaha yeah ummm no... not with how much they drink.
Steve parked his car at mine with a 1/2 tank left. Leaving mine, it was down to 1/4... thirsty bastards! hehehe

I am with RACV. Never had a claim with them and an Rating 1 for life. They asked me all those questions too.
The claim was approved the next day, being yesterday so I'm happy. Assessor goes to look at the car on Monday.

If all goes well, and I can scrounge together the money, I'll be a SRi owner tomorrow.

All of us at 'you know where' LOL, are very glad your ok Pauly and we are looking forward to seeing the new beast. Post it up over here as soon as possible mate!!

In response to some of the stupid opinions about this car stepping out, it is quite a common thing as these cars are very light in the rear and coupled with the fact of a 'rear brake pressure-regulating valve' perhaps not being adjusted correctly after lowering or fitting larger diameter rims or malfunctioning, it is completely possible to have happened exactly as Pauly said.
I own three, yes three GSi's and it has happened to two of them for one of each of the above reasons. So unless you were in the friggin' car sitting on his lap while he was driving and went through the accident with him I suggest you keep your opinions to yourself!!

...Glad your ok mate!!

ynmakr: thanks for the comment, much appreciated.
I dont know what happened. As I've said, it came out and thats it. Bang and its over.

What has happened, has happened. Nothing I can do about it now, but move on.

I know for a fact that I wasn't speeding, and today if I had the car still, or any other car for that matter, I'd have gone thru exactly the same.

Some of you make think what you want, and to be honest, I dont care. You weren't there when it happened, so stop assuming shit.

Thanks to everyone who has posted the well wishes and support. Its greatly appreciated, and tbh its great to see that I run such a great community.

I'm closing this thread as what has happened is not in the past. I'm feeling ok, and am now moving on with a new car.
