Holy crap, that's an impressive sight  the red one looks hot compared to the standard metal finish, thanks for sharing Poita :)

Simon will be jealous and probably explode his jocks over this one :D

LOL - awesome site.

Ange, the red paint would probably affect the conductivity of the stainless steel construction which may stop the flux capacitor from working... ;) :D

There's 2 gold versions in existance. Commissioned by American Express back in the 80s (of course). Very rare and priceless.

I'll would stick to the bare finish though. ;)

Thanks Poita!

but on the other hand, the red would make it go faster.
so 88mph could be reached much sooner ;)

no worries at all Simon :)
though you would like

Cool, I looked up this car on Wikipedia and found out they were made in Northern
Ireland , for some reason I have always thought they were American made. What is it with these cars? People just love them

Any way I see your six and raise you ten haha

Beats me.

Probably the history.

Probably the fame.

Probably the uniqueness.

Probably the looks.

Probably the unreliability. *LOL*

I'll still have one. :p

I think the above is exactly what's done it for this car - and probably being the rare hand built thing it is - is probably why it was chosen for the movie...

I have the box set, might have to dig it out..in the mean time this is what I found on Wiki.

The DMC-12 was featured and mentioned in many films and on television, most notably as the time machine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Lorean_time_machine) designed by Dr. Emmett Brown (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Emmett_Brown) in the Back to the Future trilogy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_to_the_Future_trilogy). Brown's rationale for choosing the De Lorean was stated in the first film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_to_the_Future): "The way I see it, if you're gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?" The choice of the De Lorean was actually for the purpose of a gag in the film that occurs when the car arrives in the year 1955 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1955) and is mistaken for an alien spacecraft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alien_spacecraft) due to its gull-wing doors.

Six DMC-12s were co-opted for use in the making of the films. For the second and third films, producers replaced the underpowered stock engines in their production cars with Porsche (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche) engines. The Back to the Future Part II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_to_the_Future_Part_II) De Lorean was seen as a prop that Amanda Bynes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanda_Bynes) rested on in the movie Big Fat Liar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Fat_Liar).

If you look at it from the the scientic point of view (in the context of the movie of course), the DeLorean was not chosen by Doc just because he wanted to build a time machine with some style...The DeLorean's body was constructed out of Stainless steel -and Doc mentions right after the style line that "the stainless steel construction makes the flux dispersal....." he doesn't get to finish the sentence because the DeLorean comes back at that exact point - so the DeLorean was chosen because it would have made the flux capacitor work properly.

Sorry, I am a big BTTF-phile and have watched all movies more times than I care to remember....

but it's a movie so who cares.... ;)

"He's an idiot. Comes from upbringing. His parents are probably idiots too. Lorraine, if you ever have a kid that acts that way I'll disown you."
