I feel so sick right now.....................

Quote:
The Courage tipped today at the port in Jersey City causing major damage to over 300 BMWs not including 70+ BMWs that were total losses.

a majority of the destroyed vehicles were M3s (mostly in dark blue) with a variety of 3ers and 1ers smashed up as well. A small number of the cars destroyed had German Tourist plates on them, those European delivery customers will NOT be getting their cars back.

If you were expecting your M3 or e90/92 in the next month, you're going to be in for a sad surprise.

those cars that were a total loss will be crushed, I asked a BMW rep, he stated that they will not be auctioned as there is a liability for letting those cars on the road. The shipping company's insurance is footing the bill, I do not know how they will handle those cars that are already owned by the European Delivery customers.

Those cars with light damage will be repaired at the Elizabeth Receiving facility and sold through BMW's dealer network as new cars.

Just one slight snag with that idea...

Jersey City and the Elisabeth Facility is actually in the US...

Secondly, even if you could snag a bargain over there, you'd need to get it checked-out through Customs and Quarantine over here. Emissions Laws in the States would be very different to those in Australia.

you can container a vehicle for use as a track car only with out too many issues you are just never able to register it ever. Mates dad did it with a couple of cars just to stip them for parts

BMW is having a bad run . . . I remember recently a boat load of them was lost when a boat went down at sea. Can't remember the details, but think it was travelling from Europe to UK (maybe?) and lost the lot. Couldn't be more than a couple of years ago, because I'm sure they were current 3 series. Vaguely remember containers of BMW parts getting washed up on a UK coast. Tractors were included in the cargo, because I recall a picture of a tractor sitting waist deep in sand on a beach.

Ouch!

in Au they are only aloud to repair 3 individual parts of the car to still be able for it to be classed as new other wise it has to be classed as 2nd hand. eg the hail damaged repaired Astra i found with only 96km on it earlier this year

I think the incident you are refering to was the capsizing of The Tricolor which was carrying BMWs Volvos and Saabs. The ship was cut up resulting in it's cargo being destroyed, hence the parts washing up on shore. All of it's cargo was written off and destroyed.

Nope, a fuel guzzling 6.0L SS will do me. I like burning fuel. None of this drinking from the exhaust pipe. But yes I do look at environment and sustainabillity as important, and glad i'm in a position to better use our resources.
