A very interesting review. The funnest one i have seen with some of the thing they do .
The Place its conducted at is a Resort with a test track on the ground in Spain. Now why hasnt someone ever thought about building one here.

One of the best Top Gear reviews i've seen, hilarious!!!!

I know a few years back there was talk of building a new track here in Aus, Mark Skaife being one of the designers, but i believe there were not enough funds to back the project!!!

But yeah that was a great episode, go the M powered beast!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the guy who built this one is a oil billionaire not too many of them down under :)

Great review overall, did not expect the M3 to be so much faster.

Nice, go the M3! I have read some mediocre reviews by a few journalists but this was the test I was waiting for. The lap time sais it all!

the rs4. might be small.

I like the latest test they have introduced to Top Gear. The Cock Metre.

The track is owned by the same billionaire that owns the "Ascari" car brand and is called, funnily enough, the "Ascari Race Resort".....

M3 looks the best and is quickest, Merc sounds the best and the Audi is the best built...

But for me, I loved the "Stig-ette" swimming in the pool.....

Top gear is still the best auto show on earth....Hammond and Clarkson make it and are incredibly funny....

Anyone see them drive a Nissan 4WD ute across the English Channel????

Shaun
6th January 2008, 02:45 PM
The Benz has a nice note to it.

And agreed Gman. The " Stig-ette " was great in the clip. Its going to be hard for SBS to come up with as something as good as The UK Top Gear.

Pop Quiz. Which one is an M3??

http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m225/tteett/epcp_0709_25_zbmw_e92_m3front_side.jpg

I think M division have done what they have always done (bar the homologation designed E30 M3) and made the M3 look sinister without going over the top, less is more! You must remember the e92 Coupe is a hot looking car to begin with!

Oh, and production of the old shape RS4 stopped a while ago so the test seems somewhat flawed.

xplosv57
6th January 2008, 07:08 PM
Although they may look similar, there are actually very, very few parts that are interchangeable from the standard E92 coupe to the M3 counterpart!!!

hahaha yep coz the other 2 cars sunk.

Pop Quiz. Which one is an M3??

the 2nd one, but it still looks to much the same to the coupe.

Great vids, I like all three of em, between them I don't know which I'd choose, the RS4 probably makes the best daily driver, the M3 more of a weekend machine, I think the Merc has a great new look and I could live with that too :)

Although the M3 is 'almost' totally different from it's sibling stable mates, I think it's a damn shame you can't see it at a glance :( even someone who knows all about the cars will only see subtle external differences - the fact that a re-mapped 335i will blow one away is also of concern if you had to make a decision to buy a new M3.....

Apex
7th January 2008, 12:39 PM
Yea but a 335i would have nothing on the M3 round a race track! Plus a twin turb would be nowhere near as acoustically pleasing as a high RPM eight-pac

I like the fact they are stealthy, if you’re buying a car to impress people go for a second-hand Porker :p

Wraith
7th January 2008, 01:34 PM
True that, as I've always said, nothing beats the sound of a good V8 :)

It would be dissapointing though to have an M3 and get 'owned' in a typical street drag by someone with a very similar looking and much cheaper re-mapped 335i ;)

And then there's the upcoming smaller and lighter 1 series Coupe with the same TT IL6 engine !!!

M3 is better on a race track, but as has been said many times before, that dosn't mean anything to 95-99% of owners who will never track their car !

Everyday driving performance on everyday streets is what it's all about :)

yep, a v8 with a flat plane crank and you got one of the best noises in the world..

except for maybe a wailing v10..or how about v12 maybe.... ;)

Wraith

Your right, V10's and V12's sound great too...

As for V12's, on the Melb. meet yesterday, a red Ferrari Testarossa screamed by dragging a couple of 'crotch rockets' and keeping up with em too :D

I couldn't tell the sounds of the bikes apart from the Fezza, that high pitched Ferrari V12 engine scream was horn bags :)

A friend of mine's father has a white one in his garage (think Miami Vice), sitting next to his burnt Orange Porsche 997 GT3...

and why are the wipers up on all the cars??

gman
10th January 2008, 01:15 PM
When you store a car for long periods, you should lift the wipers so they don't stick and mark the windscreen. Moisture, dirt, dust and crap sits on top of them and perishes them. When you drive around normally it gets blown off, the blades flex in the air flow and you use them sometimes so their OK.

When they do stick, when you turn them on they can scratch the glass and just don't work so they last longer that way..

On top of that, imagine the cost of a Ferrari or Porsche windscreen...Not sure if O'Brien's carry stock of windscreens for a late 1980's Ferrari Tessarossa.. ;)

btm
10th January 2008, 01:17 PM
ah, makes sense - thanks :)

Wraith
10th January 2008, 01:44 PM
and why are the wipers up on all the cars??

That's actually a very good question and Gmans answered it.... :)

What I do to my 'rarely' driven cars is put a strip of cotton cloth between wiper blade and windscreen to achieve a similar result, otherwise I could accidentally get myself or something else caught on the wiper and wreck it, because of the confined space in my garage :)

I also have covers (cotton or silk sheets) over my cars in the garage which arn't regularly driven, this keeps all manner of dirt and debris as well as insect pests and their residue off the cars :)

yeah, cos its one of the newer episodes, BBC cracks it and forces them off youtube.

you can always check out www.finalgear.com (http://www.finalgear.com) - they have torrent links for every top gear episode, problem is you have to download the whole ep (which really isn't a problem :D )

Going back to the BMW, they have different bumpers, side repeaters, bonnet (with two vents on the M3), side skirts, wheels, lip spoiler, side mirrors...the M3 is VERY different to the normal 3 series....even though the differences are quite subtle.
