I've enquired with my local dealer about the availability of special tools.

(i'm actually after a camshaft locking tool to allow a timing belt change on my 1.8l Astra, tool KM852) The dealer has advised me that that they don't sell them.

Is this just a problem with my local dealer? Has anyone had any luck getting their own dealer to sell them the holden tools? Are they available through some 3rd party company?

Yep don't bother with dealers and special tools, i have to wait months for special tools from my own dealer, things i need to use everyday!!!

As stated above, try an automotive place eg. autobarn, bursons etc, they should have something for you!!!

for the cam locking tool. the draper one that low astra listed is incorrect. there is another draper one which is for the 1.8l engines etc.
i bought both of them and found that there is no way that this first one that low astra listed can lock the cams on my 1.8. i bought the other draper tool which is this one here

http://www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/sp-2-4596-29113-draper-twin-cam-lock-tool-gm-ecotec.asp

if you notce the difference, the 2nd one allows you to slide the lock between the plastic divider, between the cams, whereas the 1st one doesnt do that

Thanks Harry. I'm sure that info will come in handy for someone else, down the track.

As I already had the car in bits, I couldn't stand to wait a couple of weeks for the tools to come in from the UK. I came up with a home brew arrangement to manipulate the 2nd pulley. Now that I've done it once, I would have much preferred to have inexpensive tools like these Draper ones, on hand. It would have been much faster, and easier on the new belt.
