Hi guys,

Just wondering out of curiosity if anyone has ever done a 5 door 2.2L Astra G?

I've seen plenty of turbos done and some v6's, but never a 2.2, so I was just curious if it has been done.

let me get this right, you've seen plenty of V6 5 door astra's and you're asking if someone has done a transplant of the 2.2 into a 5 door??

Yeah that's right.

I'll be a little more specific. I haven't seen the v6's, just read about them in various threads on different sites.

I've just never read anywhere about anyone ever doing the 2.2L transplant into the 1.8L, as it's generally the 2.0L turbo that gets transplanted. So I was just curious as to whether it had been done?

i doubt it's been done in aus, would have been done plenty of times in the uk..

since theres not a big difference between the 2 performance wise anyway, and there isnt an abundant supply of these engines.. it'd be cheaper to sell up and buy an astra turbo.. plus you get better power anyway..

for the gains made, this transplant, being done in australia, would be a total waste of time..

for the unique value, i dont think it's even that unique..

never heard of this happening in Oz

are you thinking about project V6 Astra G? :)

Totally agree with ALL of the above, especially the last 2 lines ;)

As much as I'd love to, no I don't think that the V6 Astra project would be going ahead in the near future. No point really.

Agree with you guys as far as the cost VS gains goes, I just hadn't ever heard of it being done. With Holden having brought out the 5 door H with the 2.2L I wondered why I hadn't heard of anyone doing it on the G. I'd imagine that if it fitted it wouldn't be a bad option for a Corsa owner looking for something different though.

Now that's something that's 'probably' worth doing - despite the complexity and cost, you'd have uniqueness and a ball tearer in terms of performance, as this particular project also adopts rear wheel drive :)

It is also spectacular because it's been done to an Astra G Coupe - sexiest of all the body styles of the G, well maybe except for the vert :D

yeah you'd only drop the v8 in and do a rear wheel drive conversion if;

1. you have roughly 60k+ to spend
2. you're completley nuts
3. you dont mind spending countless night wishing you'd never started this
4. you have no problem with never getting back any of the money spent

you could get it done cheaper if you;

1. do all the work yourself
2. have about a years worth of spare time
3. are good enough in your work to be able to get an engineers cert

otherwise..

just buy something more powerful to start with..

Projects like that do take ages to complete and then they're never complete anyways, there's always something to finish or re-do or repair or that's not right and so on and so on, it's never ending - took me over 3 years to do a similar thing to an old XU1 Torana many moons ago and it suffered from all the above...

As already pointed out, one of many reasons to NOT do such things ;)
