Not sure if this has already been covered, but I want to take off the engine cover to my 2.2 to reveal it in all its glory. I assume the engine cover is just for aesthetics and has no real prupose?

I can't see any obvious screws or latches. Has anyone already done this?

quite simple to do it you just pulls it off, yes im being 100% serious its that simple. its held on by 4 lugs, thats the best way i can describe it, they are in each corner of the engine cover. THIS IS ONLY FOR THE 2.2, with thw 1.8 its held on by a couple of TORK screws. Helps this was of help

Molky - did you ever get the chance to take a picture of your 1.8 with the cover removed? I'm really interested how it looks, if it looks good then I might do the same for mine!

I was thinking of a custom aluminium engine cover

Can't stand this plastic POS. Cheapens the car.

That would look good

only problem is heat generation. Cover has to act as a heat shield as well. Thinking of using heat tape on the underside of the cover, stop heat from escaping, and routing ducting from the grille under the cover. Shoul eliminate any heat produced, more effective than OEM plastic too.

Anyone interested, refer to my post in the how to section in regards to airboxes.
