So with the AUD = 0.92 USD, that makes it about 36K...what do we pay?

Completely loaded Pontiac G8 may will cost just $32,895 (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/11/07/completely-loaded-pontiac-g8-may-cost-just-32-895/)

UPDATE: Full pricing for the 2008 Pontiac G8 have actually been available at least a week, but we guess no one really noticed what a deal it was until now. You can check out the pricing in detail here (http://autos.aol.com/options_summary?exterior_choice=18U_01&chk_3=PDX&chk_4=PCQ&chk_19=QFX&chk_22=CF5&v=9764%7CUSB80POC191B0%7C6%252dspd%2Bauto%2Bw%252f OD%257cV%252d8%257c6%252e0L&submit=Next+Step) on AOL Autos.

We were surprised and delighted when Pontiac announced that the highly anticipated G8 GT would start under $30,000 (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/02/pontiac-g8-to-start-at-27-595/). We assumed, however, that additional options to make the car more enjoyable would increase the price quickly and dramatically. According to a tip we received recently, that may not be the case. This document (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2008-pontiac-g8-pricing/477852/full/) shows a breakdown of 2009 G8 pricing that reveals the most expensive combination of trim level, packages and individual options could add up to a G8 GT with an MSRP of just $32.895. That's barely $2,000 over the base price of the G8 GT model. It also includes a set of 18-inch all-season tires that cost $150. Delete that option and stick with the 19-inch wheels wrapped with performance rubber and the price drops to just $32,745.

While the document, which appears to be a scan that includes employee pricing as well, could be a fake, we don't suppose there are many folks out there who go to the trouble. It lists the exact same base prices for both the G8 Base and GT models that GM announced in early October, but also includes pricing for both the Premium and Sport packages that can be ordered together on either the Base of GT model. It also reveals pricing for the Power Sunroof to be $900.

One feature that seems to be missing entirely from the G8 is a sat nav system, which would add around $2,000 to the price if available. We couldn't find any mention of one on Pontiac's G8 microsite (http://www.pontiac.com/g8/), though it does mention the inclusion of either a 5.0-inch multifunction display or 6.5-inch color LCD depending on the stereo system ordered. A sat nav system can be ordered on various versions of the Holden Commodore in Australia, upon which the G8 is based, so it's not like the car can't take one.

Thanks for the tip, Hamburglar!

Yes, we all hope that in fact the new strength of the Aussie dollar does translate into such savings, not only for cars but everything else that's directly related to the US dollar for us here in Aust.... :)

if you imported it, then you'd need to spend a bit on it just to convert it to RHD

hahaha...i know it has its place, but tourism isnt that big a factor in our economy when you compare it to mining and industry :)

Besides, i dont know if many of you have noticed, we might be climbing against the USdollar, and a little on the pound, but we havent done much against the euro.... (i see the euro as the base we should measure ourselves, not the US).

True, but in the same vain as the trading laws, i dont give a crap if the small guys are open on sundays etc, i dont buy from them because they are over priced and contantly moaning about the bigger companies.

If i want to buy my tv from harvey norman( i wouldnt..but for the example), and i work every damn day, i should be able to go there on sunday(my only day available) instead of being forced to go to a smaller store with possibly less support and higher prices, just because this state (country?) has laws that enforce the tall poppy syndrome. Image you work your ass off for 40 year to grow your business, and then one day someone else tells you that you are too big and now you cant be open the same days as the shops your competing with because..well you have become too successful so now we will punish you!!

/unrelated rant :)

yay for the aussie dollar :)

Actually the US dollar and the yen are slipping, and our exchange rate is staying within the 59 to 63 Euro cent band (and 40 to 45 pence).

The Australian dollar has been appreciating against the Euro and Pound over the last few months, but the change is only minor. You won't reap great savings on holidays to UK and Europe, and nor will Europeans pay massively more to come here. Japanese and Yanks will struggle to holiday here (or anywhere), because for various different reasons the economies of these two countries are broken.
