During the same round of the OPC Race Camp that saw the introduction of the Opel Astra OPC Nürburgring Edition (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/28/opel-unveils-astra-opc-nurburgring-edition/), former Opel works driver Manuel Reuter decided to update the official Nordschleife record book. He did this by taking a production-spec Corsa OPC (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/01/03/vauxhall-corsa-vxr-opel-corsa-opc-to-be-unleashed-in-march/) and lapping the course in 8 minutes, 47.99 seconds -- a new record for superminis on The Green Hell.

The Corsa OPC is no stranger to the Nordschleife, as Opel uses the track regularly during the development of its automobiles. The little hot hatchlet is driven by a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that delivers 192 horsepower. Its peak torque rating of 169 lb-ft can be bumped up an additional fifteen percent thanks to the car's Overboost function. We sit here waiting patiently for the next Corsa revision, so that we can see a Saturn-badged version take on the forthcoming Ford Fiesta/Verve/Whatever (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/23/frankfurt-preview-ford-verve-concept/) when both ultimately arrive Stateside. If the Detroit automakers cooperate, we'll get a Red Line vs. SVT duel, too. (Fingers crossed.)

Im sure someone at holden would love to hear that. Dont be suprised if HSV bring the Corsa VXR to Australia. They have been Evaluating the Car. And they also have dealers giving them Feedback since a recent article went to press.

I wouldnt be suprised if we see a Corsa VXR on the HSV Stand @ they Sydney motorshow. In the last edtion of HSV Magazine Excel they interviewed there New Managaing Director who believe smaller cars are in HSV Future. And John Crennan Has already said openly that HSV will consider other models from the VXR / OPC line up.

Yeh wouldn't surprise me either... Having the car on the stand at a motorshow is one thing, bringing it here and selling it is another. Remember the VX220 Holden brought out here at the Melbourne Motorshow a few years back?

You will find Matt a couple of factors played a hand in the VX220 Not making it To the Australian Market. One being the Weak Australian Dollar at the time and two the interest may have not been there for Holden to present a Strong busniess case to the board.

HSV on the other hand are very keen to branch out . John Crennan has already said openly that the corsa is on the radar.

I still have money on it appearing at a Motorshow in Australia with in the next 12 months. It may not happen @ the Sydney International Motorshow as HSV will have a Special Model for the 20th Ann. of ther Brand with in Australia which is romoured to be a GTS special Edtion according to Wheels some months ago. But i dare say that its possible as a " feeler" on the display so they can evaluate the Business case.

i have to admit i am enjoying getting behind the wheel of my wifes corsa VXR, the more milage the more it is opening up, the bluefin software has made a big difference but its still doesnt have the hardcore factor as my astra VXR but then thats running alot more mods, but still the corsa is a fun car especially for around the city but it does shine along windy twisty country roads.

thats track driving, not the same as bashing down country lanes and city streets, Evo mag rated the corsa above the clio for everyday blasts, clio 197 has a much harder ride over the corsa but saying that the corsa is far from soft, simple uprating of springs on the corsa will see some improvements for track plus the corsa's 1.6 turbo is much more tunable than the 2lt n/a lump found in the clio.
