Irmscher presents the Antara in custom design

Remshalden, May 2007
The new Opel Antara – the compact SUV with the individual touch from Irmscher With its forward-looking four-wheel engineering and a compact exterior, Opel now offers its customers the Antara, a compact sports SUV. Fans of custom styling can also enjoy a dynamic new bodywork package and a range of high quality accessories for the vehicle interior, supplied by Irmscher, the car customisation specialists, in time for the launch of the new series. Irmscher has equipped the model with 20" Evo Star wheels, a 30mm lower chassis, and quadruple stainless-steel exhaust pipes. Irmscher has integrated its sports-oriented accessories in the functional form of the four-wheel model using an unequivocally stylish design language. Not only do all Opel dealers supply the full product range, but customers can now also order Irmscher products prior to delivery, directly from the Irmscher works in Remshalden.

Exterior
Functional and sporty styling from the front to the rear
Irmscher consciously developed the styling of the body components with due consideration for aerodynamic and functional SUV requirements. The materials from which the components were made exceed all the manufacturer's requirements, in terms of their precise fit, durability and robustness. The designers have given this model a conspicuous front skirt, attractively formed and sturdy side skirts, a roof spoiler and a rear skirt panel, components which comply with the entire range of technical and optical requirements, both on and off the road. Components that give the body its own typical optical character, with additional drive, and a conspicuous bodyline, without negatively affecting the vehicle's suitability for terrain use. The dynamics of the vehicle's front section is characteristically defined by the typical webbed design of the Irmscher radiator grille with the stainless steel strip. The side view is given an individual look thanks to the door handle spoilers, and aluminium-finish door handle covers.

Interior
Maximum comfort and a first class finish
Entry into the Irmscher-customised interior of the Opel Antara is through gleaming stainless steel doorframe bearing the Irmscher logo and the wide opening doors. Once seated in the vehicle, the passengers enjoy a maximum of comfort. The contoured seats are all finished with exclusive Irmscher leather upholstery. All the elements of the seat system can, on request, be finished in first-class handwork quality using high quality leather, for an extremely elegant feel and appearance. Irmscher fulfils all of its customers' wishes in terms of material, colour and finish. Other individual details from the Irmscher interior features range for the Antara include the leather-covered multifunctional steering wheel, and the central armrest and gear lever gaiter, also made of leather to match the general upholstery.

Engineering
Dynamics plus
Irmscher has given this car a lowered design, perfectly coordinated to suit the Antara, for more dynamic driving characteristics. Moreover, the Irmscher engineers have given the Antara a more powerful appearance, the result of which are the 20" light-metal Evo Star wheels. The stainless steel silencer with two sets of dual exhaust pipes, to the left and right, are a clear signal of real 'four-end' dynamics; these are characterised by their long service life and sporty sound.

... those rims and that great body kit won't change the a few facts, such as severe lack of power and steering lacking any feel...
looks good though in the showroom :)

Just to confirm, this would be the MaXX variant in OZ, wouldn't it? My wife are looking at getting rid of her car and a Maxx might be an option? If I could get it to look close to this, I'll have two Opels in the garage.

Nice.

No it isnt

The Opel Antara is a mid-size crossover SUV, which is based on the GM Theta platform. It is closely related to the Chevrolet Captiva (made in Korea by GM Daewoo, also sold as the Daewoo Winstorm), and shares the engine lineup with it, but has a different exterior and interior, as well as different exterior dimensions. The Antara is scheduled to be launched in the summer of 2007. In the UK, the model will be sold as Vauxhall Antara. In Australia, this will be the top model of the Captiva lineup of the Holden brand, called Captiva MaXX.

Cheers

That's what I thought.

If you look at the holden page

http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/action/vehicleentry?vehicleid=30

you can see the difference between the CX, SX and LX and then the MaXX.

The exterior differences are minor (the headlights a big difference) but you will see in the interior section that there is a big difference. The 'base' models are all very much Daewoo material but if you have a look at the MaXX it is almost identical to the dash a lot of us have in our late model Astras and Vectras.

We are looking at A MaXX tomorrow. Will repoprt back.

The Antara uses the same architecture as the Captiva, but uses a stiffer suspension setup. The Antara IS built by GMDAT (Daewoo) in their Plant 2 along side the Captiva. At present the production facilities are still old school, there is no automated processes, everything is manual so build quality suffers as a result. However they are looking at upgrading their production facilities as we speak... A friend of mine is about to head over there to assess how they can improve and best implement better production processes.

Well, as posted, we looked at a MaXX on the weekend and unfortunately we were both not sold. Quality is good, but rear storage is poor due to a sloping rear tailgate and I wasn't sold on the drive.

We have, however, decided on an XLS Outlander, optioned with the Rockford Fosgate and Sunroof. Got an awesome deal and excellent service from Toowong Mitsubishi.

Can we have a review in a new thread, as to its features and why you chose it over the Maxx?.

Absolutely. I'll write it when I get home.
