Hi all

Is there a limit to the number / total size of attachments that I have added to posts? I ask because it looks like 100k is the maximum total size of attachments in all posts that I have submitted??? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks
Chris

Chris, each file you upload is limited to 100k.

100k is not the total of all images you are allowed to upload.

WTF? Looking into it.

Some users have 1.5mb... 500k of total attachments....

But none of them are over 100k.

PMFJI, but my experience has been the same as that of OZChris in that when I tried attaching photos to my posts, I was also told via automated message several months ago that I could post no more than 100Kb IN TOTAL, which is why I've not uploaded any pictures since.

I've always thought that was a bit minimalist so I hope you're right when you suggest that there is in fact no limit. I'll be interested to see what you find once you've checked the system.

Thanks Rhino, I've also not posted any images due to the same problem that Bill_G and OZChris have reported.

I just added another file in the testing zone.

My total is now 150kb...

I can't actually see in the Admin panel that we have set a total limit... only a per file limit which you can see when you try to attach a file.

Added another one... I'm up to 222kb...

OK.

I've found it.

Yes, it is managed on a userlevel... level (too many levels)...

I will discuss this with the rest of the staff and see if we can't bump it up a bit...

Stay tuned.

I've found it...Thanks for looking into that. I hadn't realised that it was unintentional, so never bothered pursuing the issue.

I've just changed the total usage to 2mb.
Lets see how that goes for now.

Cheers for that Pauly. Wonder why nobody else had complained about it? Anyway, it's fixed now and that's all that really matters. ;)

a lot of people use www.imageshack.us or www.tinypic.com or www.photobucket.com to upload the pics offsite
i cant remember the last time i uploaded an attachment to the site...

a lot of people use www.imageshack.us or www.tinypic.com or www.photobucket.com to upload the pics offsite
i cant remember the last time i uploaded an attachment to the site...That's very true Donna, but for longer-term archival material such as images acompanying the "How2" guides on VVOC (where I spend much of my online time) we've found that the image-hosting sites tend to delete their images after far too short a period of time, which makes them virtually useless for such purposes. For short-term one-offs though, they're more than adequate for the task. :)

Those sites shouldn't be deleting anything!

I use photobucket and my stuff isn't touched.

Using offsite image stores like Donna suggested is the preferred method as it keeps our database / storage and bandwidth down...

Cheers

Those sites shouldn't be deleting anything!Be that as it may, there's nothing more annoying than searching for an old archived How2 file, only to find that whilst the text still exists, the images have long since been replaced with placeholders.

I use photobucket and my stuff isn't touched. You're clearly one of the lucky ones then, because I have noticed far too many instances of late where somebody will post a link to an image which no longer exists, even though it had been posted only a matter of days earlier.

Using offsite image stores like Donna suggested is the preferred method as it keeps our database / storage and bandwidth down...Agreed, but by the same token, I don't believe it's very clever to be storing important or irreplaceable images off-site when there's no guarantee that they'll still be there 6 or 12 months down the track.
