Hi Everyone,

As a way of further improving OpelAus, and getting more member involvement, I have setup this Suggestion Box.
Please post up any realistic and constructive suggestions only on how Admins can further improve the site. Any spam in this thread will be deleted.

OpelAus is already a great site as it is, but there are always ways of improving it. You the members are the best sources of information when it comes to ideas, because you use the site daily, so please help us make OpelAus better for you.

Cheers,

The Admin Team

One little suggestion, and I think this may assist the Astra G / AH SRi-T owners, is to break up the Astra section into some more specific sub groupings, for example:

Turbo queries
Cooling queries
Boost queries
Flashing queries
Exhaust queries
etcThat way people may have a simpler time of finding specific information quicker, and not have to go through rehashing everything, time and time again..... :)

It's not really something that will improve the forum, but I thought (and have been thinking for ages) that maybe a new banner for the main Page (you know where you click 'Enter') to update it, or keep it the same, but maybe use some new cars on it?

Its been like that since I can remember, but on the other hand I keep thinking thats a good thing, because its something that remains constant on the forum. Just thought maybe an update wouldn't be so bad either.

A all hail dave day....... we can even make it a national holiday :D

I dont think thers much that needs inproveing apart from one section where say people can post all there parts and service providers....

I would make it alot easyer to find a replacemnt for something you broke.

What about a monthly Photoshop comp. A different GM car (since it's a GM based forum) is placed each week and people have to alter it in some way.

Can we get a Guys only section? And a girls only section?

Obviously accessable only by the particular sex involved. I have seen it on numerous forums, and it gives each of us an area to post thing without fear of reprisal/condemnnation from the opposite sex. Before all you guys say "YEAH PORN SECTION FTW!" that is not what i am suggesting.

i mean you may have a dirty joke you want to share, or even ask a question about the mysteries of the female mind, or girls may want to ask others about how they feel about wearing pink shoes with a black top etc. I have seen guys open up asking for help (when we all know they would never do so if they knew girls were reading), and i am sure women have similar things they would liek to share with one another without stupid comments from some of us guys.

each of us dont want to/hear know certain things about each other, this space can give us an oppourtunity to get past the bullsh1t PC-ness that is taking over the world. I believe it will help build the opelaus community.

This has been done on another forum Ryan [Rhino] is on, and it works. Definately something I'll be looking into.

on z00pedup we have a password protected race tales section.
Not that OA condones street racing, but it includes track, gymkhana, etc.

This way the guys can talk about their times, readings, results, etc. without getting attention from the 5.0, as we all know, they do read forums like this to get some inside info.

Porn.....Hmmmmm ;)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
coming from a site the size of vvoc in the UK (16,000 members) there are 'cruise Rules' that (albeit goes without saying) are 'site law' which go roughly as follows :-
The stated meet rules are:
THIS IS NOT A CRUISE, This is an Opel enthusiasts meeting. Please act in a responsible manner whilst at this Meet. Showboating in the form of "Handbrake Turns" "Donuts" "Burnouts" or similar, are not tolerated as this just brings the name of the club into disrepute. OpelAus.com is not responsible for any members actions whatsoever at any Meet or Event.
And usually a designated 'area rep' to be on hand to 'meet and greet' and to reign people in if things get out out of hand
Just a thought :confused:
We already have cruise and meet guidelines in state. Each person that organises an OpelAus event gets one of these which covres OpelAus from any form of liability if people behave like morons.
I think you should refer back to Wayne Shaun should you question what was promised and what was not. I think you will find you misunderstood. There was never going to be a VXR section created by Wayne.
Any creation of a VXR section should be now directed at current Administrators as a formal request.
Hence why it is irrelevant now.
As for what was said between you and Wayne, I stand by what Wayne told me. And as he is not here anymore to speak otherwise or control the site I suggest you stop referring to what you thought was, and concentrate what can be brought to the forum now.
Why cant we have a VXR section on the forum? Or is it because the forum isnt going to move with the times and grow.?
I think its a Valid question and a Valid Section considering there are about 8 or so VXR Members on the forum who would love to be able to disscuss options and opinons of what can and cant be done with the VXR.
I also believe as time contiunes the VXR numbers will grow with HSV now openly saying they are looking into the Corsa VXR.
Different mods are out there for the VXR in terms of Preformance. We know all know the cars are completely different. Even if it was a Sub Section of the Turbo section. I think its valid. Im not being an ass about it i just think that if the forum dont move forward in a positive direction then its going to go stale and members will slow drop off.
not that my opinion means anything here, but i agree with shaun i think there should be a seperate section for the VXR, there is a seperate section for ICE so why not the VXR as the VXR is more relavant to the forum then the ICE section is.
You say that the VXR can just be talked about in the Turbo section, well i say that the ICE can be talked about in the section for the car that the question is about, why is that not done? well its not done that way so that if you know your after a ICE question you can go there and post or search before you post and select ICE so you dont have to search through endless pages of post's to look for a answer to your question.
Same thing goes for the VXR or even the SRiT for that matter, the turbo section should have its own sub sections in it maybe 1 for the VXR 1 for the SRiT's with even maybe sub sections in that for the G and H variants, and maybe just a general turbo section for general questions in regards to turbos or even different cars other then Holdens.
If its a matter of not wanting to or its too hard to sift through the current threads to move them to the correct spots (if the changes were to go ahead) well don't move them just leave them there or only move the most relavant ones into the new section and call the current section the genral section.
Anyway something to think about.
OMG did i actually think that up and post it up?
SSSHoon, your opinion does count, otherwise this topic would not exist. :)
ICE can cross over to different models - so someone who has an Astra might not check the Corsa or Vectra forums to read about ICE - and may miss out on a good tip or a hint - and lets face it, ICE is a huge thing for some people - hence it can benefit a lot more than 8 people out of 1000.
Again, thanks for the suggestion Shaun, but for now, there will not be a VXR section. Using the Corsa VXR as a reason because it may come to Australia isn't good enough, and the SRiT and VXR aren't that different. All VXR discussion can carry on in the Turbo section.
Considering the Turbo Section has grown in the last 4 or so years due to more members coming on board. I remember when i purchased my SRi T there were only a Handful of members back in the day. Over time the VXR crowd will grow. We are finding that with the hsvvxr.com forum . Considering there are only 200 units in the country you cant expect the numbers to be high. I think it will make it easier as SSS Hoon has pointed out when trying to find information related to either the SRi T and the VXR which will make life easier for the members over all. Its not about Being an exclisive section for the VXR owners but just making life easier for both VXR and SRi T Members .
I see what your saying about the numbers which i understand but i think with out change and fresh ideas things become old and people get board with the same thing.
New Suggestion:
As the Tigra is based on the Corsa. Are we able to change the Corsa Models (http://www.opelaus.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=10) section so it covers the Tigra? I have no where I can really post tech questions and as the Tigra uses the Corsa SRi Engine, I may as well use this section to hit everyone up with my questions.
I do understand that there is only 2-3 Tigra members though.
So sub title could read:
All technical queries on the Corsa (Barina), Tigra range of cars
Considering there's 3 Tigra's on the site, i may not do it just yet.
It may come up in the near future tho, as the only thing common between the Corsa's and Tigra's is the drivetrain. Body/panels are completely different.
We already have a link (banner) to OpelAus :) Its in the information box top right and alternates between DHL shipping as you browse the site. Our plans are to direct the link to the sponsorship payment section on here once its up and running ... if thats ok ;) Jay, your links to us would be more than welcome ... it will all help our Google rating in Australia which is most important to reach others outside the OpelAus community.
I noticed that Opelaus.com is not that mobile friendly..... is there something that could be done to make it more mobile friendly?
Thanks :)
In relation to Buy, Sell and Trade section within the forums. I've noticed alot of Ebay links appearing in the main section of the forum. Could someone from the admin team please confirm if these posts should be posted in the sub section area called 'Auction Links'?
If so, I know its not really my place to say so, but can people post these links within the correct section.
Maybe a suggestion might be to change the name to 'EBay Buy Now/Auction Links' and make it a NIL post count (if not already) to aviod SPAM.
My two cents, sorry guys.
my honest and sincerest apologies to everyone.
i promise there will not be a repeat of this in the future.
i am certain this has been bought up because of my badge post.
i shall "spam" no more.
just to clarify i dont post to acheive just another post count, i post ebay stuff only with the intention to help.
again, i am very sorry :(
Mate, please, dont be sorry, I was just keen as it would be a good idea of having all the ebay links in one area within the buy and sell forum.
Your intentions are good and there are people out there that are greatful for the links back to ebay, as alot of people dont get the time to search these items themselves. So dont feel bad.
Everyone in opelaus are here to help each other out and share a common intrest. At the end of the day, your making that happen :)
i suppose there are a few different types of spammers,
some spam to get sites recognised, including referal spammers
some spam just to be a**holes
some spam just to build up post counts, these spammers comments usually have nothing to do with the threads topic or nothing to do with anything mentioned in the thread.
making certain posts not add to a users post count makes sense in a way, it sure would weed out the post count spammers.
and some spammers arent spammers at all, they just have alot to say :p
just a suggestion to make things more navigation friendly...
say you want to find out how to remove your door trim...
ill use astra section for an example.
click on astra section from main forum page...
this opens to a page where you find a list of areas of the car
eg
engine and transmission
interior panels and parts
exterior panels and parts
wheels and tyres
electrical
etc etc
so you click on interior panels and parts
this can either open a page to the appropriate topics
or it could open to another list of areas which delves even further, to make your search more effective...
eg ,
in interior panels and parts section you find a list like,,,
dash panels and parts
door panels and parts
boot/trunk panels and parts
etc etc.
so for the door trim info youd search the door panels and parts section.
i dont know if this has been suggested before but id happy spare my time to help sort the topics for admin if they were to go further with this idea.
i think this would lead to less posts on the same topic
i think this idea would also be most useful in the "how to" section
i know people could just use the search function but i dont know how many times ive used search and been faced with a multitude of topics which have nothing to do with what im searching for.
cheers for the info, ive already visited that site loads of times and yes it is very useful. :)
however my message wasnt asking to get help finding how tos etc, it was just a suggestion to make opelaus more user friendly and make it easier to navigate overall, not just in how tos. :D
cheers, jason.
ps, the how to was just used as an example.
Maybe we should seek some partnership with the car-related industries and business, not only bringing more benefits to members, but also help to create value/profit for those industry partners, and promoting OpelAus.com at the same time!
but most people here seem to think a couple of coloured silicon hoses and spray painting their engine cover is nice engine bay.
it was, but that was a long time ago.
at the moment, the forum software needs an upgrade - we will have to tackle that first and then look at adding modules to it then (reason why we're getting a whole lot of bots signing up and posting crap)
a shoutbox/chat room will be considered.
