Anyone heard if they are coming here as well or will they stick with the 1.9?

Nice find. I'd be surprised if they replaced the 1.9 with the 1.7 in the Astra. Possibly as an addition later if diesel continues to grow...?

However it's probably it will appear here in one model sooner or later...Barina?

Diesel is certainly on the ascendancy in this market -

Talk about mega frugality, the one big positive I concede to the oilers...

I wonder if this is an attempt at lowering emissions more than anything else, as the current engines already have excellent efficiency, otherwise what would be the point of having smaller lower powered engines

i think this new engine is rather to reduce costs and also to give more choice on the competitive European market. let's not forget, there was always a 1.7 diesel engine in Opel's portofolio there.
don't think Holden will bring it over here. diesel is just becoming popular down under and they've got plenty of 1.9 CDTi they could sell. i reckon a 1.7 engined Astra would have lower margins, too.
as far as i'm concerned, there's no point bringing it over

i think that 1.3L cdti would be good in the barina ;).
matches the current 1.4L kw wise. and i', sure the consumption would be around 4-5 L/100.

The 1.7 would be more fun :)

and the 1.9L even more fun, but i was being realistic ;).
maybe a VXR diesel corsa maybe with a 1.7L or 1.9L :).
