I'm in Northern Tasmania (a bit north of Launceston). I've just bought a 1998 Vectra wagon in Sydney on ebay. Going to pick it up in 2 weeks and drive it back. It was a bit of an impulse buy as I'd been looking for a V6 Camry wagon, or maybe a Saab 9000 hatch. I've got a 1990 Apollo wagon now which is great for me (cheap & utilitarian) although a tad dull, but super reliable.

Too late - I've already got a seat. I know it'll be bad, but I got it for $54! I'll most likely sit up and watch tv on my laptop (prerecorded stuff).

Do they still do the day trip? I couldn't sleep in the seat so I took some blankets and caught 4 hours sleep on the top deck just behind a wind-shield near the bridge - during a night trip in spring.

Only during the busier times (I think the last one is tomorrow). It would definately be the way to do it. I once got the catamaran when they had that. During the day and quite quick (although very puke inducing in rough weather apparently - they had lots of cancelled sailings due to bad weather and was probably the reason it stopped).

What are the details ?

A 1998 gold one, manual, radio/cass (no CD), plain wheels, dark tinted windows (which I'd prefer not to have) 135,000 kms. Regular servicing at Suttuns Waitara (has all the stamps in the book apparently, so they must've replaced the timing belt at least at the 120,000km mark). Seems in good condition body and interior wise, but I'd better reserve judgement until I've actually seen it.$8001.
