ICE is being installed into my AH SRiT. Dropped it off this morning to FHRX studios. Should be done by Wednesday evening.

Installing:

1. Soundstream Picaso PCW-10 10" RMS 300 subwoofer.

2. Soundstream LW1.350 mono amplifier 1x350 RMS @ 2 ohms to power the sub.

3. Soundstream LW4.480 4x60W RMS amplifier to power factory speakers.

4. Front doors are also being sound deaden.

5. Amps are going to be mounted on a polished alluminium rack running across the back of the rear seats. Easy removal plus no drilling into back seats.

6. Stinger pro cables, distro box, fuses, etc.

Setup:

HU speakers line out to Stinger line level converters (front and rear). Front line level converter RCA to Y-split. One Y to sub amp the other to front channel of the 4 channel amp. Rear line level converter to rear channel of the 4 channel amp. Bass controller installed into glove box.

System then tunned.

Should be sounding better, more bass .

Step-by-step pictures of the install will be posted as soon as I get them (pics included as part of the install).

Thats what I being reading in the forums, only have speaker level out no RCA out or sub out :(. Can anyone confirm this? The spec says it a 5 speaker system but the 5th speaker is a center channel not a sub:(.

Yeah Marty a top bloke, gave me a lift home after dropping off the car. Now that service, and he does very good work. I have 2 mates that highly recommend him. They are in the Show car class in the CAASQ comps. Their cars are done by him.

Has anyone tinkered with the AH SRiT HU?

not 100% sure on the SRiT, but most factory decks only have line level outputs.

What made you choose to go the soundstream route? good equipment, just a general question.

and i'll give you two weeks with the factory speakers up front, you'll want more....

Soundstream gear was second hand. The gear was only one month old for about half the price. It not the best equipment but for the price I paid for them I cant go wrong.

It actually isn't a bad thing to use hifi outputs - you compare the signal voltage of hifi outputs to RCA outputs and the difference is quite remarkable. The problem isn't so much the strength of the signal but the quality of the signal that is being transmitted by the transport. Using the factory unit as a source only does have it's benefits, providing you tidy up the signal before the amplifiers there won't be as many benefits in going aftermarket (aside from EQs and so forth).

Given the costs of integrating an aftermarket headunit with the Astra H dash, the increased risk of theft, the cosmetic difficulties and its a decent case for retaining the factory unit - if you are not satisfied with the result you can always put something like a JL Audio Cleansweep or Rockford Fosgate 3.Sixty into the equation which are both incredible units, or a cheaper preamp with a simple EQ will balance the costs in your favour.

Having said that, I think you will be very happy with the result when you get the car back and will find no need to upgrade any further. Marty does a great job and you are in safe hands.

has anyone atempted sound deadening the doors themselves? i had all my stereo stuff installed, I wasnt happy with the job that was done by this well know sydney car audio specialist, I supplied everything except power cable and they still ran there cheapo rca cables, from what i could figure out was that there alot thinner so easier to run through the car, i re ran my thicker better quality rcas that i gave them but they said they "look a bit rough and dirty" well there not gona look clean once theyve been run through a different car previously now are they, and i could hear the difference once i put the better quality rcas in, otherwise everything works fine and i simply whent to them to install for $250 to wire up compared to a quote of $600 for exactly the same job elsewhere, and all that was needed is installed front splits rear splits, head unit, run power and rcas. I mounted the amps and subwooer, cap etc. The price variations are rediculous sometimes. I was just to lazy to install it all myself and i really hate running wires through cars, took me a whole day to do a mates starlet from start to finish and yeah i didnt get much out of it..... But i think ill do some sound deadening in the future.

Remember though Whitelotus; when you're comparing different quotes from different shops you'll need to read thoroughly through them as there are a great deal of issues that can effect quote prices. For example our quotes are often above our competitors but upon closer inspection people discover that we tend to include sound deadening, diffusers, batteries, earthing kits and fire extinguishers which can always be taken out (our quote templates just have them included to start with).

When installing a system it is not a simple matter of 'chucking it all in somewhere'. Rather, there are many things to consider and some of these issues can push the job price up too. Some of these items are listed here (http://www.fastfoursforumscarclub.com/temp/fhrxstudios/aboutus.asp#whyus).

On the subject of sound deadening and diffusing the Astra doors; here are some images of BMAN's doors that we just finished:

totally agree with Marty on this one. and with installs its a case of you do get what you paid for..

i also did my front doors although with more then what was used on BMAN's doors heheh and a different brand but the same none the less.

and it works a treat i just hope that i dont need to get inside the door in a hurry is all.
