"...After a week of urban driving (government ministers catch planes on intra-city trips, so open-road figures are irrelevant) the V6 had consumed an average of 19.25 litres per 100km...."

It is all city driving, but that is appaling consumption even for city driving...yet they say it's better than a BMW 5-series.

Yeah definetely something wrong, unless the foot was buried on the gas the whole trip!!! V6 commdores usually do 11-12l/100km moderate driving, but ive seen them go under 10l/100km if driven well, cruising on the highway!!!

Then again if its true, shows again how much better the V8 equivalent is haha!!!!

i don't think there's anything wrong with that figure-the Statesman is a very heavy beast. if driven in a busy city like Sydney 19 l/100km is nothing amazing :)
you can try to drive as sensibly you want, when traffic is bumper to bumper fuel is burnt inefficiently...

Well i wouldn't be suprised.

My mum's 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a 4.0L inline 6. She doens't thrash the car around and the average fuel consumption for city driving is around the 22L/100 mark. The car weights 1700kg so not much more than the commodore and it includes an 4WD system too.

The commodore weighs 1800kg.

Depending on model designation... Bottom line Commodore Omega weighs under 1700kg. Statesman/Caprice weighs 1800kg+.

But that consumption does seem very high. My old man's VYII SS did around 15L per 100km(at worst) in stop start city driving... sure it was lighter than the Statesman but it had a 5.7L V8...

theres somethin defently worng with that my vx commo i had used about 12-13L drivin in melb, sydney, other places i aint that easy on the throttle. i would get 20l wen towing my trailer and this is a box trailer that is the size of a land cruiser, not the best aero dynamic aid and it weighed about 900kg with my stuff loaded in it.
