Yep that is what they say `Turbo Lag`,most euro magazines have commented on the lack of turbo lag as have a few here.
Each reviewer unto their own I guess.

You'll always get that sort of differing analysis with turbo cars.

Because they're just mass produced and not blue printed in any way, the power output and feel of the engine is always a little variable from car to car.

It's even the case with the Sri t, Simon (Simid) recently purchased one and he swears it goes alot harder than the one he test drove...

I test drove a VXR and it did have alot of lag and only came to life in the mid range, but the report in Motor not long ago with their test car, found no such issue, they actually said the MPS 3 had lag, I know someone very well who has one and he says it has no noticeable lag at all - that's what one of the benefits of direct port injection is all about.

Plenty of conflicting views on that point. When I drove one, for a good hour, i felt it had a fair amount of lag, considering how fast its meant to be. I'm no expert, but considering how turbo's are meant to have the low down torque benefits, I felt more revs were needed... THEN the massive whoooosh came!!

What about with sport mode on or off?

My CDTi is a bit laggy off, but not any lag to speak of with sport on.

Is it possible they are discussing different driving modes?

The VXR doesn't have a 'Sports' mode like the SRi Turbo though. I guess it also depends on what else the person driving it has driven to compare it to...

The VXR doses Have Sports Mode. The Spots mode is different to the SRi T which you would expect. different values in the ECU for mapping and Suspension set up but they both have the same princpals.

Digifish they two different ECU maps. Ineffect what happens is the when Sports mode is switched on The map is reading a secondary map from the car which changes settings. It wont increase the KW out put but it changes how the car responds to the drivers input.

Nahh it doesn't have that much to do with cars having differing performances from the line, that only happens with high powered turbo vehicles, such as the BMW 335i, there you may see a difference of +-10kw and up to +-30Nm....usually it's a +, not a -.

Anyhow, this whole 'lag or no lag' thing is due to some reviewers not having a clue what turbo lag is.
My 2 cents

I meant in terms of IDS, the sports mode on the VXR does it stiffen up springs since it doesn't have IDS?
