i have my Astra H (stock standard so far) i was just thinking about the factory security (immobiliser and the deadlock function)

with todays advances in car security is this enough? is it enough to rely on the factory immobiliser?

would you recommend installing another immobiliser or\and some kind of other security device?
(i was thinking about taking my 3 year old boxer with me and leaving it in the car but the RSCPCA would have some objections about that) :)

do you feel the factory immobiliser (in our Opels) is adequate?

An alarm isn't going to stop a person from breaking into a car.

All it does is make a goddamn awful racket after the fact.

And when alarms do go off most people (well in the city) just keep walking and take no notice.

do you feel the factory immobiliser (in our Opels) is adequate?I'm comfortable about the standard security on my Vectra. I'd be much more worried about thieves taking the contents of my car than the car itself (not that I keep much of value in my car).

I'm no scar security expert, but I think people stealing your car by stealing the keys, etc. is far more likely than breaking the car's built-in protection mechanisms.

Quite simply, if they want to steal your car they will. Last year 3 Porsche Cayenne's were stolen from a holding yard in Melbourne, without a window being touched or an alarm going off. And these are Porsche's, not Honda Civics... lol :p

AH yes, but the stealth and "intelligence" of the thief is directly proportional to the value of the car :)

Yep therefore, don't have to worry about upgrading immobilisers and the like on an Astra. ;) My point was just that anything can be stolen, no matter the security measures.

ok...fair enough. i gues i have to relay on my immobiliser and insurance :)

i have a circle of friends back in Poland who used to steal cars...if they couldnt steal it they would steal a toptray tow track and hijack the car this way.

Well for me, any deterrent is worth it, of course a pro criminal is gonna steal it if they really want it, but if an alarm stops some little joyrider from taking my car then im glad i spent a few extra hundred on my alarm!!!

that is true.

i was actually thinking about why dont the car alarm companies install the sirens (piezzo speakers) inside the car cabin instead of the engine bay?

since no one really gives a sh!t about alarm siren going off why not install a small siren inside the engine bay and a really loud and annoying one inside the cabin...this way the b@stards will get a lesson and a free visit to a hearing specialist :D :D :D

Well lucky for me, my alarm is f*&^ing loud, and has like 10 diff sounds which is unbelieveably irritating!!! Not a bad idea installing it in the car, would deter thieves from taking the car once they score a free headache too!!!

silly thing is a lot of cars can be hot wired and push or jump started - the key is not constantly checked - only on cranking so they don't hot wire that part of the circuit

another way is just to use another key barrell and its matched security unit - this only works on cars that have the separate key reading module - this stops damaging a car that you want to sell

haha yeh, like in building alarms. When the one at work goes off, you don't want to be inside! haha

If they want to steal they will. Save the money you spend on an alarm and put it on the insurance.

I have a simple kill switch installed on mine, cost me about $20 to install and to be honest I believe these simple devices to be one of the best ways to prevent the car from going anywhere, the thief believes he has the car started and proceeds to drive a meter or so then cathud no fuel, by this stage he should give up and run away (this also works a treat on mates that want to test drive my car).

Why stop at just a siren? Lets gas the little buggers.

I am happy with what the Veccy C has standard :)

What i did do to a Suzi Sierra soft top was to have installed a flashing light that came on the dash when the key was removed.... I could leave that thing in a shopping centre car park, at the beach, wherever, roof off, stuff on the seats, and never once touched :D
