View Full Version : What's your ultimate dream car ?

jvl
5th February 2007, 09:50 PM
Hi y'all.... was having a discussion with a friend the other day about dream cars etc.... was an interesting discussion so thought I would pose the same questions here.....

1) What is your dream car IF money was no object
(even if is not available for sale in Australia)

2) If you were to replace your current car today what you would look at getting (or look at getting as your next car) ?

For me would be
1. Lamborghini Gallardo

2. HSV VXR - saw the one at the Motorshow and loved it!!! I'm happy with my TS SRiT for the moment but the next car I get will hopefully be a VXR.

Cheers,

Andrew.

So many to choose from for #1

1 Ferrari Daytona in a hardtop OR a Shelby CObra 427!

But #2 for me its most likely going to be a Jensen Interceptor or specifically a 1970 MkII. I just love em! Made a deal with myself that all being equal in the world my next and last car would be one of these! hmmm looks like im stuck with the Vectra for a while yet!

I already have a Garaiya but using a FWD SR20 style motor powering the rear wheels similiar to a Toyota MR2. Many of you would recognise the RS01 as the Tommy Kaira ZZII, Autobacs bought Tommoy Kaira in the late 1990's and improved on the Tommy Kaira built vehicles.

lol... in that case I will take one of each car that has been mentioned so far in this thread :)

One a side note re the Bugatti Veyron.... they did a top speed run on the latest Top Gear (that just aired in the UK). They got it up to its quoted speed of 407km/h (253mph) and commented that at that speed it will
wear out its tyres in 50 minutes!!
use up the entire 100Litres of Fuel in 12 minutes!!It's just a bit of a pain that Bugatti wouldn't let The Stig loose with it around the Top Gear Test Track.. to see how it really compares to the other cars on their powerboard (like the Koenigsegg CCX)

The Veyron is some car..... just wondering when they are going to bring out the "Sports" version which apparently will have 1,200bhp.

1. McLaren F1. I just love this car because of how it was designed - no more kilos than were absolutely necessary, with a killer power to weight ratio as a result, and the best technology of the day. It makes the Veyron look bloated and crass.

2. Seeing as my next car is just weeks away, by default I have to say Commodore SS :) After that? My wife wants lots of kids, so err...2017 Honda Odyssey?

Excellent choice ie: VE HSV GTS as a family car :)

Enough room for everyone and a very safe car to haul the family around and good looking enough with awesome performance for you to enjoy on your own as well ;)

Money is no object in this thread, but at approx. half the price of the RS4 you really couldn't go wrong ;)

Nah seriously probably something big, fast and euro like an M5/M6 (if only i could get away with borrowing one)

Next car: Have been looking for a few months now, pretty much something with a V8, most likely a 5.7 VX/VY HSV or VZ SS (6.0 if the budget agrees).

But my mind would have most likely changed next week so my next car decision is very difficult!!!

Save your money on the 6.0L. The 5.7 can be tuned to make over 240Kw@wheels with extractors/exhaust/airbox and a ECU reflash. The 6L only makes about 5Kw more wth same mods.

Bugatti Veyron. If any of you watch Top Gear, they do a test of it tonight 12/02/2007. In the newest season (which we don't have here yet, where Hammond comes back) they test it flat out...

Price: Approx $3m....
Top speed: 406kph...
Engine: 8 litre, 64 valve, DOHC, intercooled, quad turbo, W16... Achieved by joining 2 VW/Bentley W8's back to back
Power: 736kw @ 6000rpm.
Torque: 1250nm from 2200-5500rpm...
Weight: 1950kg
weight/power: 2.65kg/kw
Specific power: 92.0 kw/litre
Transmission: 7speed DSG with paddles
Brakes: fr 400mm carbon/ceramic rotors, 8 piston / rear 380mm cf/c rotors 6 piston..
wheels: fr 20x9.5 / 265/680ZR508A, rear: 21x13 / 365/710 ZR540A
Fuel consumption: at full-bore it will empty the 100l tank in 20 mins = 100L /100km..
Performance: 0-100kph - 2.5sec (same as Rossi's MotoGp Yammi) , 0-200kph - 7.3sec (quicker than Shumie's F1 Ferrari), 0-300kph - 16.7sec, 0-406kph (max) - 55sec!
And as a clincher, the engine produces a maximum combustion energy of 3000bhp....1000bhp is disipated to the air by the cooling system, another 1000bhp is blown out the exhaust, which leaves 1000bhp to turn the 4 wheels...
In addition the suspension has 3 ride height settings which control height and adjustable front/rear spoilers. The height ranges from 120mm around town to 65/70mm fr/rear at best and downforce ranges from 0/40kg fr/rear to 150/300kg fr/rear...And then there's the air-brake...when you brake at over 200kph an air-brake actuates and gives you an additional .6g retardation and also adds another 300kg downforce to the rear so there's no nasty rear lock-ups. At max speed it is covering the ground at 111 metres/sec...!!!

Yep, got that one already set to recorde :)

I too have been a fan of this car since it first appeared, but more on the technical side of things, I've always been a bit unsure of it's aesthetics, especially that front 'horse shoe' grille - damn it's ugly and IMHO opinion spoils the whole front picture of the car !!

I'm sure they could've come up with a different shape to do all the same things required of it - VW trying to stamp their trade mark front grille on it for sure me thinks, since they've acquired majority share of Bugatti

Ah yes, but the 6.0ltr will have much more torque and much more of it down low in the rpm range and much better drive characteristics and it is a stronger better built engine (ie: block and internal components) than the earlier 5.7 LS1's.....

I'd go LS2 or the newer model 6.0ltr V8's anyday over the earlier 5.7ltr - I'm talking from experience as I've owned a LS1 powered HSV, but after driving various models of 6.0ltr equipped cars, admit the later 6.0ltr engines are way better, both stock and for power up tuning.....

It comes with two keys. A Speed key which allows the car to goto its max speed, however if the wheel is moved beyond something like 15 degrees from centre the speed limit of 200mph kicks in. Then there is the every day key which limits it to 200mph or something. I'm not 100% sure of the figures.

It was a pretty good episode. That car looks amazing.

The top speed was actually 407.6km/h...as he was trying to get that last km for a few seconds and it clicked over and stayed on the 407 for about 5 seconds.

Nice to see a manufacturer who can stand by there figures.

Tyres also only last 50 minutes @ max speed...no need to worry...you will run outta fuel in 12 minutes and it takes in 4 days worth of your breathing air every minute.

LOL yes i know all about this, just dynoed my mates VT II Calais (so the first LS1's 220kW stock) with exhaust, extractors and a tune and it made 223rwkw (277kW at the fly!!!!)

But im right with ya Wraith, the 6.0L has a much better torque curve, is much better built (not the leftovers from the production line) and hey it may only make 5kW more, but thats 5kW more i have that the older ones don't hehehehe!!!! ;)

Honestly if i could afford it, there'd be no doubt in me getting an LS2 but really don't wanna be forking out a loan on apprentice wages LOL!!! Well see how i go!!! :D

Yes this is correct and is easily achieved, because the initially introduced LS1's were purposely detuned by GMH to output only 220kw. flywheel

In actual fact they produced around 240kw flywheel (from 2 mates of mine that had their stock VT II LS1 SS Commos dynoed)......

HSV and GMH wanted a clear power distinction between their cars, so that HSV could charge that much extra for their first LS1 250kw vehicles.

So the GMH SS was branded with 220kw, but it actually had around 240kw.

If you go back and look at all the acceleration figures of the VT series 2 range, you'll see that the SS was on par with the HSV's and the quickest of all was the slightly lighter basic executive sedan with the LS1 option !!

Out of the box as they were delivered from the states to GMH, the First LS1's produced 261kw flywheel, Holden then detuned them to make up for the small power increase increments for the next few models, simply by changing the ecu programming and induction.

Look at the last Monaro model and surprise, surprise LS1 rated at 260kw ;)

I remember very clearly with my 250KW LS1 powered R8, I could actually feel it was being held back every time I gave it a hammering, it was so obvious to me it had been detuned.

The same has been done with the LS2, it exists as up to a 350kw 600nm engine in the states.

The current 6.0ltr VE is capable of under mid 13sec 1/4 mile passes, 270kw, I don't think so, it's heaps more :D

VS supercharged Calais was in a similar situation, lower factory figures just so there was more of a distinction between the 6 and the 8.
