Guess the understeer is not so bad then :)

alot of rearwheel drives also have really bad understeer. but most of the latest hot hatch front runners handle incredibly well, and understeer is hardly worse than most rear wheel drive cars. As long as you know how to drive a front runner, then you wont have much trouble with understeer :)

I have been in 3 VXR's and driven One and i can honestly say UNDERSTEER IS NOT A ISSUE.
Anyone can hold there foot flat and have 3/4 lock on the wheel and make a car do that

That's great news.......

Regarding torque steer/understeer, this has come up alot even with the Astra G turbo and I've always been surprised at people who've said it's a problem.

As I've always said I've never found it to be a problem on my re-mapped G at all.......maybe in wet n slippery conditions, but then you'd drive differently in conditions like that.

I've also test driven a VXR and found it to be very tame and placit - in fact way to tame for my liking, if I get one the power's gotta be ramped right up for me to be happy :D

I've always had high power rear wheel drive V8's but have no real gripe against high power FWD cars, I enjoy driving both types of set-ups :)

As BR said, once you get used to and experinced with them, they're fine.

Fact is your more likely to lose or spin out of control with a RWD car than a FWD performance car from the rear end 'fish tailing' !!! although if you know what your doing this can also be extreme fun :D

That my gripe with the likes of jeremy clarkson on top gear, bagging all but one front wheel drive car for its handling(he loves the focus rs with comes with lsd as standard.)

you see them hammering around their track in rear wheel drive cars slinging the rear out all the time, yet somehow they dont see that as "bad handling". when he did the test on the VXR astras and vectra, you could plainly see he was making the car understeer ALOT on purpose. the vectra had worse understeer, but i can expect that since its a heavier car. either way if he knew how to drive a fwd fast then it would have been a better test.

stop baggin J Clarkson he is great nota s good as the hamster though.

the plain and simple fact is that the show is for the feelings and opinions on the cars that they are testing and obviously he does not like the VXR so he did what ever he could too make it look bad, as im sure he could drive it fast after seeing him in the focus ST not RS and the GTI.

After all that's what drifting is all about ;)

And yes BR, I agree Clarkson is a TOOL !

I hope he gets fatter, that way he won't even fit in an average hatch
anymore :D

Well, after bagging the torque streer of the VXR around 3:20 in this clip on the focus he says he 'loves the VXR' but just wouldn't buy one with this own money...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fL-qUUFLB3I

So I don't think he hates it...just likes the focus better. Anyway - torque steer and power-understeer are a good thing, it means your car has some grunt :P

Means the same thing as oversteer in a RWD car.

Those times are all very well, but couple of points. Is the driver the same for all cars. Were all tested in the same conditions? Traffic? Any mods to the cars - ie slicks? 10/10ths or cautious laps? I'd take all the times with a grain of salt.

And yeah, any car with that much power through the front is going to torque steer, all comes down to the drivers boot to keep it under control
